Sugar and ogling and everything nice

Last night I was supposed to go see The Senate, but no one would go with me and I hate going to shows alone. Add that to another bit of stress in the day, and I desperately needed distraction. Erin's friend Mary just moved in with her and Jake temporarily, so the three of us had a little "Girl's Night." We went shopping and bought creamy, yummy-smelling things to put on our skin, then went out to dinner, then showed Mary around Redmond. A stop at Whole Foods was necessary, since Mary is a health nut, and Deliguy happened to be working. It's been over a month since I saw him, and it was all I could do to keep up some kind of intelligent conversation. He is so cute, it's staggering. I am simultaneously glad I saw him and frustrated as hell, because AUGH WHY ISN'T HE MINE YET.
Then we went back to Erin's and watched the Food Network and made cookies. Go team girly!

Here is the cookie recipe, which we sort of made up. It was based on a peanut butter cookie recipe we found online, which we modified based on what we wanted in a cookie...plus whatever Erin had lying around.

Whatchoogot Cookies, or
Dibble Cookies, or
Topless Cowboys,
or if you want a more normal name,
Chocolate Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookies

1ish cup peanut butter (or in our case, "whatever was left of a jar of creamy Skippy")
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Bag of chocolate shavings (roughly two cups, but probably more than that)
I guess you could put nuts in them, if you're a nazi

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
In a large bowl, cream together the butters and sugars until well blended.
Beat in the egg, milk, and vanilla one at a time. As per Leslie's Golden Rule of Baking, "put in as much vanilla as they suggest...and then put in some more."
Combine the flour, oats, baking powder, and salt; stir into creamed mixture. Add a few spoonfuls more flour and oatmeal because the dough looks too wet.
Add chocolate shavings and stir into dough. It should look distinctly chocolatey. If it doesn't, add more chocolate for crying out loud.
Drop generous spoonfuls of dough onto ungreased cookie sheets an inch or two apart. Give each proto-cookie a gentle spank with the flat of a big spoon so they're flattened a bit (the cookies don't spread much).
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are lightly browned. This is hard to tell since they should be brown from chocolate anyway, so use your best judgment.
Consume with glass of your favorite variety of milk-type product, and sigh contentedly.

Edit: I forgot to mention that Po called me during dinner and it made me happy :)
