The last two weeks, or how I learned to stop worrying and love local hip hop

Feb 03, 2007 00:11

A lot of things have come to pass lately, and I have, for whatever reason, not felt like posting.
I worked a ton of overtime getting the new store set up, and it opened on the 27th with great fanfare. I worked the second day of the grand opening, and for my trouble I got to see some sweet local bands for free. We started off with The Earaches, a pretty sweet punk band, and ended with Common Market, Seattle's favorite hip hop duo.
And I liked it. I watched a hip hop group and I enjoyed it. Stevo, can you hear me?
Thee Emergency played as well, and they were all right...sort of reminded me of Mon Frere, but not nearly as good. The music was good, but their attitudes sucked. The singer, who is black, said something like, "Common Market is next," and people did not follow the audience cue to whoop and applaud. She followed the silence with, "I guess there aren't any black people here."
Before making that joke, she might have wanted to look at a picture of Common Market. Since THEY AREN'T BLACK.
Congratulations, you not only look like a bitch for making a generalization, you looked like an idiot for not knowing who the headliners were.

Later that night I caught my first shoplifter. It involved running and shouting. It was all very exciting.

Uh, what else? I worked 10 days again with no break, then I had yesterday off and didn't do SQUAT. Well...I did do something. Not any chores, but...yeah.
Yesterday, Erin drove me to the Humane Society, where I put Dodger up for adoption. Yeah, I failed. Things weren't working out, with the tiny apartment, and I just couldn't hack taking care of him and Pepper. If you live in Seattle and would like to adopt a very reserved and quiet black kitten with a goofy face, call up the Seattle Humane Society and ask about cat A00924620.
Then Erin and I got burritos and went to World Market to cheer me up. I bought some silver bangle bracelets, because sometimes, I am a girl. I also bought British biscuits called Penguins, which were delicious.
Later, Ryan and I watched the first disc of Pride & Prejudice. Ryan and I have a tradition of theming our snacks with the movie or TV show we're watching. Since we didn't want to drink tea and eat cucumber sandwiches or something, we went to Celtic Bayou and had bangers and mash for dinner (delicious, but SO overpriced), then hit up Larry's Market's British section for Jammie Dodgers and Aero bars. For the record? Jammie Dodgers are "stretchy jam SPLODGED in the heart of two shortbread biscuits." It says so on the package. They are also MARVELOUS.

So yeah. I am doing ok. Pepper misses him, and I do to a certain extent, but I am happier to be back to just me and my fat boy.

Here's your moment of surreal shit for the day:
The guy who draws Loserz is now drawing porn - and getting PAID to do it.

splatters, cats, erin, work, pride & prejudice, pepper, ryan
