You say it's your birthday? It's my birthday too!

Welcome to one of my best birthdays ever!

Had a family get-together last week involving two cousins visiting from Minnesota, one of which is my infamous cousin with my same name and same birthday. My mom made the most amazing carrot cake in the world, the only form in which I will eat carrots, nasty litle buggers. My little brother, who is just the bee's knees, learned to play The Beatles' birthday song for me :D

I had planned to hang out with Erin and Jake (ex-roommates) a few days ago, but something came up, so we rescheduled for the next day when I got off in the early evening and could bus over to their new place, which turned out to be yesterday. I honestly wasn't even thinking about the fact that it was the day before my birthday, and Erin and I hadn't been able to make plans on my actual birthday because she had class all day. Ryan ended up coming to pick me up from work, and when we got to E&J's apartment...surprise! They had the place decorated with pink and green streamer and "pretty princess" decorations. They even got me a Disney Princess cake, which came with a crown and a sash that said "Perfect Princess," which I wore all evening. It was just me, Erin and Jake, and Ryan, because none of my friends really know each other and Erin didn't know who else to invite, but it was awesome anyway. And presents! They got me FURNITURE. My friends are so awesome. Ryan got me a sort of shelf/desk thing which is really neat (pictures forthcoming) and Erin and Jake got me a desk with a sewing machine inside! I'm guessing mid-50s, but I intend to do a little research and see if I can find the actual age. It has little drawers in which we found the original instruction manual and all sorts of sewing accessories, most of which are the same vintage as the machine. AMAZING.
If that wasn't enough, Ryan also got me Into The Woods on DVD. And if all THAT wasn't enough, Erin then took me out to dinner at The Olive Garden (because I haven't been there in FOR-EV-ER). I had the most amazing chicken scampi which made my head melt. We then rented V For Vendetta because I'm the only one who hadn't seen it, and ohmygod that movie was incredible. Must get comic from library STAT.
I don't think I have ever had a surprise party before. This is one of the best birthday parties I have ever had.
My friends are AWESOME.

Now it is the official day and hello I am now 24. This is a somewhat unexciting age to become, but wtf Olive Garden and princess cake. I have no particular plans for today until this evening, when I shall go see Poorsport at El Corazon.
Perhaps I will try to find someone to go have dim sum with me in Chinatownexcuseme the International District. And then maybe I will frolic around Pike Place because it is the happiest place on Seattle. And then maybe I will work on my stories because that makes me happy.

Oh, and those of you who are not in the grand state of Washington can celebrate my birthday by going to any major bookseller and purchasing the new reprinting of Jane Lindskold's Brother to Dragons, Companion to Owls, so you can read one of my favorite books and support one of my favorite authors. I know I will.

Happy birthday!
