I fucking hate April Fool's Day.
My visit to Michigan was fun. Not perfect, but I got to spend time with my friends and it was nice. Did karaoke at Dagwood's (naturally), played games at Po's house, and got my
hairs cut. Po was going to get his cut too but he wussed out. WUSS. It's ok though because he looks pretty with his long hair. I look pretty with my long hair too, I was just tired of it. It feels MARVELOUS.
The trip was good though, we got to play Asshole and wander around Battle Creek and I got to meet Po's special lady, Kaylin, who is a nice girl. Corey made Po a birthday cake shaped like Darth Vader (we called him Darth Caker). A nice visit.
Today was the Emerald City Comic Con, and I went to dutifully put YAC minis on the free table. I met up with Stephen I AM NOT NAME DROPPING Notley, who was just spectating this year. We wandered around and I bought too much (including Liz Prince's book and Be A Man, because Top Shelf is like crack), and he bought a fan-made Finnish Star Trek/Babylon 5 mash-up movie. We chatted with the Real Gone Girl kids (they're nice, I met Miriam at San Diego last summer) and Stephen's friend Keith Knight (good guy), I made eyes at Jim Mahfood while I gave him a YAC mini, and had a delightful conversation with Jerry. I love Jerry so hard. If he wasn't a happily married daddy I would so be like "sup cutie." Every word out of his mouth is like a tiny hug. Our conversation somehow got to where he was pretending that people asked him all the time about knowing me.
Jerry: They ask, what's Sarah Shay of Angry People like?
Sarah: And you tell them the truth, of course.
Jerry: Nothing but the complete truth.
Sarah: That I am a total bitch.
Jerry: Spacebitch is what I usually say, actually.
LOVE. SO MUCH OF IT.
Afterwards I was walking about with Stephen and Keith Knight's entourage but they wanted to go to some fancy pantsy steakhouse for dinner, so I said my goodbyes and called Anna. We were supposed to meet around 8:30 to go to a The Them show tonight, and when I called she was at Chris' house. I hung out with them until we all headed to The Lobo for the show. While at Chris', Anna dropped the news that she and Devin broke up, and she was going out with Chris now. Wow. You don't see someone for a couple weeks and the whole world goes all killikumwamee. They're still best friends and still living together, though, so that's cool. The show was awesome, even though I had to leave early because after being on my feet all day and walking more in one afternoon than I usually do in a week, I was dead tired. Anna and I need to plan a punk rock sleepover one of these days and dye each others hair.
I discovered a new musician while on my trip; on the flight, to be exact. Frontier Airlines has TV screens in the backs of all the seats and offers you one free channel and a number of paid options as well. The free channel is mostly ads and music videos, two of which were for a singer named Missy Higgins. One of the videos looked cool, so I popped in my headphones...and became promptly addicted. The song is called "Scar," and I freaking adore it. Her whole album is streaming on www.missyhiggins.com, go check it out.
