Back home..

The hyacinths had come out while I was away on holiday and the smell of them was the first thing I
was aware of when I opened the front door. Look through the window to the woods beyond the river.
There is a cuckoo over there and I heard its call late yesterday afternoon, just as I was leaving for the
emergency dental appointment. I heard the cuckoo again this morning- which was a welcome distraction as
by then the right hand side of my face was  no longer numbed from the anaesthetic and was hurting
somewhat; but it is getting better now and I can just about eat and drink (but carefully).
I went to a birthday party last night, but could only stay for about an hour- had to drink through a straw, but that worked just fine- then the anaesthetic started wearing off, so quickly home.
But how lovely it is to hear the cuckoo... you just don't hear them in the suburbs I suspect,
as I never heard one in my old garden, where I lived before, even though there were lots of trees. First one
I think I ever heard was at a similar time last year, but in a very quiet, rural place, again, with woods nearby.
So a pleasant surprise to know this is a seasonal sound  in the place I live now.
Next week one of our local groups is organising a nightingale walk...(we have everything here... including Morris Dancers sometimes....)
**Please note that the erratic paragraph justification in the top half is unintentional and signifies nothing.. it looks like I am attempting some kind of odd and poorly crafted  poetic effect - not so, but I could not correct it in editing mode** (And also, the massive spate of postings is because I have been unwell, not because I have turned into a hermit...so I have been on the sofa a lot today with the laptop, typing instead of doing things- and it has been quite nice, thank you)
