Lesson of the day: Not all couch-surfers are axe murderers...

The worst thing to happen this week was the fact that September arrived.

Time flies...

So it would be a good time to reflect on what I've been up to, & I had plenty of things to say up until the moment where I sat down & now my mind has gone blank. This seems a bit unfair, seeing as I've been having a jolly old time & have a thing or two worth telling. Oh well, rambling is my speciality so I may as well give it a go.

Last weekend would probably be a good place to start. On the friday night we went out in Vieux Nice for the evening & once more - I just don't know how this keeps happening - it was a bit of a late night. We went to a couple of bars, the only club we seem to frequent these days & finally a tapas bar, which opened at 5am & had several good features including a guy on acoustic guitar, a nice atmosphere & suchlike. The only gripe I had with the place was that despite the name they didn't actually serve any tapas. Oh well. At one point, one of our friends decided to ambush the microphone & the whole place was singing along with him. It was a bit of a classic moment really & in a fuuny way it made my night.

The next day I went to the beach with a friend who was visiting Nice so that was very pleasant, bar the fact that one of his friends had a bit of a nasty encounter with a sea urchin & I had to escort him to the lifeguards & offer my linguistic services. Nonetheless, he survived. Phew.

The next morning I went to Cannes to meet Katie & Helen, then we got the bus out to a little beach up along the coast. It was a really nice place, much quieter than some of the places around here & full of French families. This was a bit of a relief because some of the English conversations I've been privy to on the main beach here in Nice seem to be getting ever more ridiculous. This particular sunday however, I got to eavesdrop on a French family who spent 20 minutes talking about a particular kind of cheese. Brilliant.

In the afternoon we went for a little adventure out in a kayak. It was great, although having the three of us in one kayak required a bit more coordination than we were able to deliver at times! It was great fun though, the scenery in that area was really stunning with the hills leading down to perfectly blue clear waters. I was very happy paddling along until we found a little cove where we got out the canoe, climbed over the rocks & then went for a little swim. It was a very good day.

This weekend I've had another night out, fun at the market, a bit of culture at the museum & more beach picnics. This time we met a bunch of couchsurfers... some of whom live in Nice & promise to accompany me out along on the promenade to go rollerblading. I look forwards to it... I get some french company & they get entertainment in the form of watching me fall flat on my arse. Brilliant.

xXx
