I may smell but I'm happy!!!

Firstly, ignore any spelling errors in this but french keyboards are kind of confusing!

I am feeling very happy today for someone that got woken up at 4am by the mosque (as per usual) & who is also currently covered in all kinds of mud, babysick & god knows what. It's probably best not to analyse that one too much.

Yesterday we went out to the Eastern province because of the Gacaca trials going on here in Musanze... In the morning we went up to Imbubazi to drop off a few things & then we drove down to Gisenyi & the shores of Lake Kivu where we had lunch. The drive, as always, was beautiful & all in all we had a really good day.
Today things were back to normal again & we've been quite productive. We've got all the kids wearing nametags so we can identify them properly instead of just using our nicknames for them ("The General", "No-pants-boy") & so it's better for them & better for us, seeing as there are so many of them! When we went back for lunch we stopped off at the catch-up school (for the children who have missed out on bits of their education for whatever reason) to hand everyone some pens, pencils & schoolbooks - if you have nothing things like that mean something. I then went to the pharmacy, which reaaaaally tested my pharamaceutical french (it's bad) to stock up on all sorts of pills, lotions & potions - one of the other volunteers here is a medical student so that's really helping some of them at the moment. This afternoon I sat & helped Claudine (the girl who might have leprosy... - the doctors seem a bit confused on that one) to make a bracelet which she's looking mighty proud of now!

So all in all today has been about sorting people out with supplies & cheering the others up a bit. Things can be a bit manic here sometimes but it's good to feel that we are making some kind of progress... On a practical note it's really time I went home now as I clearly smell of babysick & it's not fair on everyone around me!!!

Hasta luego...

xXx
