Title: Poffins
Author: Jubilee
Characters/Pairings: Silver/Kandy
Rating: G
Genre: Friendship
Note: First fic of our Pokemon AU between my friends and I, though this one is of my favorite ship Silver/Kandy. It's all kinds of adorable and gives me warm feelings inside. Uh, I used a lot of improvision in this because I have never written in Silver's persona so...

Sitting on a bench in Goldenrod's National Park, Kandy polished her newly acquired set of Johto League badges. She was rather proud of herself, especially since she was so far away from home.

"Well, we just have the Johto League Tournament to complete, and then we can move onward to Kanto!" she said happily to her Meganium. He gave a cry in response.

"Kandy?"

The girl turned to the side and spotted one of her new friends she made along the journey. "Silver, hello!"

He waved slightly. "Hey, I wasn't expecting to find you back here."

"Oh, yeah, I wanted to stop by Goldenrod one more time before I enter the tournament."

"So you're going to do it after all?"

"Yup."

"That's good. Well…I'll be there on the sidelines…cheering for you…" He scratched his cheek slightly. "You're a pretty good Trainer so you'll get far."

She smiled pleasantly at him. "Thanks! So, how's your training coming along?"

"Fine. Still not sure if it's enough to beat Tori though."

"Tori?"

"The Trainer I kept losing to as I traveled throughout Johto, and the one I lost to in the tournament."

"Oh yeah. Sorry, I forgot."

"It's fine." He gave a quick sigh. "I'm getting more tactful and my Pokemon more precise with their moves, but something's lacking."

"Have you bonded with them?" she inquired.

"What do you mean?"

"Remember what we talked about last time Silver? If you want to be more in sync with your Pokemon you need to bond with them too, not just train! Like, sometimes I let my Pokemon out and play with them. Life with these creatures isn't just about winning battles. They have feelings too."

"Yeah, I know that now."

"Well, it's what you're lacking I think." She tapped her chin. "Oh, wait, I think I have a good idea! Do you ever reward your Pokemon for doing well?"

"No. Why would I do that?"

She shook her head. "So they can at least feel like their efforts are worth something."

"I tell them that they're doing a good job and to keep up the good work. What else can I do? Isn't that sufficient enough?"

"Silver, you have a lot to learn." She stood up. "But I'll help you. I want to show you this place that was recently added in Goldenrod City." Kandy grabbed his hand. "C'mon, it's not hard to find!"

Happily she pulled him along, his cheeks reddened from the contact, but he made no protest other than telling her to slow down. Meganium laughed.

---

Silver cocked an eyebrow when he got inside. "What exactly is this place?"

"It's called a Poffin House!"

"Poffin House?"

"It's from a distant region named Sinnoh! This is where you get to make Poffins, which are delicious little treats for your Pokemon."

"So what are they exactly?"

"They're like a cookie and they can be made with berries."

"I'm assuming you've made them before?"

"Mm hmm, when I was in Sinnoh. I've had practice, but I can't make them as good as my other friend Sasha."

"I have no idea who that is."

She chuckled. "Come on silly, I'll show you how to make some! Do you have berries?"

"Only a few. I don't really care to pick them when I see them."

"Well, we'll work with what you've got."

Kandy put on an apron and was led to a stove, where she began making Poffins. Silver watched her, focused on the pot as she stirred the batter she had made. He watched her all the way through until they were finished baking. She got a bowl and a decent amount of Poffins rested inside.

"See?"

"That's interesting. What purpose do these Poffins serve?"

"Oh, well, uhm they're mostly used by coordinators for contests, but Pokemon love them regardless. I haven't made any in a long time so I hope these taste good to them. Would you like to try?"

"I don't really think-"

"You can do it! I'll even make some more with you."

He paused for a few seconds and then responded with, "Alright, I'll give it a try."

"Great! Just choose what berry you want to use and we can start."

Silver chose to use a Sitrus Berry while Kandy opted for a Pecha Berry. He followed her instructions and watched her carefully. He burned his the first time which made him frustrated, but Kandy told him it was alright, and to just try again, so he did with the same berry. Eventually, he got a batch that wasn't gray.

"Those look pretty good Silver!"

"Thanks."

"Try giving one of them to your Pokemon. Maybe your Feraligatr?"

"Okay." He released the large crocodilian Pokemon and looked at Kandy. She stood there smiling, her hands behind her back. "Tell him what the treats are for."

"So…," he began as he turned back to his Pokemon. "You've fought pretty well lately and have been a very reliable companion, so I made these for you. I was going to give you just one but I think you deserve more than that."

Feraligatr sniffed the bowl and took one, holding it in his claws. He threw it in his mouth and chewed. When he swallowed, his eyes sparkled and he smiled endearingly at Silver. "Feraligator!"

"You like them?"

He nodded.

"Oh, well I guess you can have some more."

The Pokemon took the entire bowl and began eating them, happy with his new treats.

"Silver made them just for you Feraligatr!" Kandy said.

He looked at her and cocked his head to the side, as if asking, "Really?"

"Yes, he did! They're Poffins from the bottom of his heart."

The creature grinned widely, hugging his Trainer. Silver was astonished at first, but then gave a smile and a laugh. "You're welcome."

"You know Silver, I think you'll be really good at making these the more you practice."

"Why's that?"

"Well because you got them right on your second try. It took me a few tries to not burn them. You have talent with cooking!"

He crossed his arms as his cheeks grew a pink tint. "It's not…that hard to do."

"It sorta is. Don't be so modest. Be proud of this newfound skill!"

"Okay, I'll take your word for it. Maybe I do have the potential to cook some great treats for my companions."

"Yes, and now you can give them these treats whenever they do well in battle! It's like positive reinforcement and it'll show them that you care enough to cook them yourself because you believe in their ability to do great! And then they'll try harder for you because they know you're supporting them!"

He smiled. "That makes enough sense. Thanks Kandy."

"You're welcome!"

"Can you make regular snacks here?"

"I'm not sure, but you can ask!" Her Pokegear began to ring. Answering it, she spoke with her mom who wanted to give her something through the PC. "Oh, Silver, I need to go to the Pokemon Center for something so-"

"That's fine. I'll catch up with you."

---

It turns out her mother bought Kandy a Fire Stone so she could finally evolve her Arcanine. Happy about her present, she put it safely in her bag, deciding to evolve him tomorrow and then get some training in. She saw Silver walk in, his signature red hair never going unnoticed from her eyes.

"So, not that it's any of my business, but I'll ask anyway. What did you have to come here for?"

"My mom bought me a Fire Stone to evolve my Growlithe. I'm gonna use it on him tomorrow."

"Really? Then let's battle."

"Now?"

"No, tomorrow. It'll be practice, for both of us."

"Uhm, well o-okay!"

He stared at her and she blinked. "What?"

His mouth formed into a tight line. "Well, this is a thank you gift for helping me with the Poffins." He handed her a muffin that was cutely wrapped. "I was going to make one but that'd take too long so I just bought it at the store."

"You bought this…for me?"

"Well I'm giving it to you aren't I?"

Kandy smiled and shook her head. "Thank you Silver."

"Don't mention it."

"Do you want to share it with me? It's pretty big."

"I guess."

He sat down next to her as she split it. They both began to eat it calmly. From the corner of her eyes she looked at him, his gaze intently focused on the other Trainers resting with their Pokemon. Kandy looked sheepish as she stared down at her sneakers and quickly gave him a peck on the cheek.

Silver's eyes widened, a heavy red blush painted across his face. He turned to Kandy, shock plastered all over his face. All she could do in response was blush and give a chuckle accompanied by a shy smile.

He decided not to ask any questions as he wasn't even sure where to start, so he continued eating his muffin, his face still rosy. Together they ate in comfortable silence, unaware of their own bond that had only just begun to grow.
