I'm 300 entries behind in my friends page; I think it's a pretty fair bet that I'm just plain NOT going to catch up. If I missed something amazing, please let me know.
Shabbos was very nice, and fairly simple. We had
beckyfeld,
osewalrus,
beckys_mom,
beckys_dad,
psu_jedi,
caryabend and
nathan_abenson. Having made a whole lotta challah for shaloch manos, I had plenty of dough for fresh challah, so I was able to do that for the first time in a few weeks. And I decided to have an early St. Patrick's Day. I don't celebrate St. Pats Day, so I didn't want this menu next week, but I do so love corned beef, so we did it a week early:
- Challah
- Garlic Tofu Dip (thanks, Seth!)
- Gefilte fish baked with onions and tomato sauce
- Corned Beef
- Garlic Smashed Potatoes (I had to make this twice because the first batch I made tasted AWFUL!)
- Roasted Cauliflower (I used curry this time, instead of tumeric and paprika, and it was good, but I added too much sugar... I miscalculated when I doubled the batch... whoopsie!)
- Spinach Salad with mandarin oranges, cucumbers, scallions, and a sweet balsamic vinaigrette
- er... I feel like I'm missing something here
- Apple Tart from the Kosher Pastry Oven and Hamentashen that Jo and Cary brought.
I didn't have as many dishes as usual, but we had plenty of food, good company, and Harold brought an excellent wine. I actually poured myself a whole glass and I feel rotten because I ended up not finishing it because my head was hurting so badly. Le Sigh.
Actually, Friday was a completely rotten day. My head hurt so badly that I left work around noon. Now, normally I'd have left work around noon anyway to go home and finish getting ready for shabbos (or pick Julian up from school, but actually Julian was with a nanny and Seth was picking him up). But I'd been planning to stay a bit later because I had a proposal going out. However, my head was pounding so hard that I wasn't even sure how to get home. Anyway, I got home and laid down in bed and the rest is a blur because the pain just wouldn't stop. Every time I turned my head I thought I was going to fall over. Seth brought me medicine and I fell asleep. Eventually I woke up, realized that the pain had subsided, but I still had the "feeling" of a migraine. This was not fabulous, but at least I was functional enough to get the potatoes and a few other sundry things done before Shabbos was upon us.
We had a lovely dinner and lovely conversation both during and afterward. At 2pm I had been half tempted to cancel on everyone and just bring food to them for them to eat, but I'm glad I didn't.
As a note, last night I had a similar (in magnitude, anyway) migaine as on Friday and I'm starting to get a nasty one now. This appears to be a trend which may be slightly triggered by allergy season, but I'd be willing to bet that the other medications I'm taking are contributing to the severity. Alas, there is not much I can do about that, but I do like to keep track so that I can speak intelligently about them if and when I need to discuss my migraine-status with a doctor.
Shabbos lunch... um... oh right. We did make it to shul (though quite late) and then joined Ian and Alida and a gaggle of guests for lunch at I&A's house. It was lovely not to have to think about it ourselves. Julian was mostly well behaved. We didn't know any of I&A's other guests... they're all young, new additions to our shul family. I arranged for Ian and Alida to join us for dinner this coming Friday, so that will be nice. I'll have to think up a fun menu...
