It's Frederiksborg Castle today!!! :) It's a class excursion with the danish culture class so transport was provided and admission was free!!! :p Heehee!!!
It was a really amusing morning for us. We made a total fool of ourselves due to our ignorance. We were supposed to meet at Frue Plads at 10am for the class excursion. However, when we reached Frue Plads at 10am, there was no one there at all! Moreover, there were no buses waiting for us. We were really surprised and shocked. Thinking we remembered the wrong place, I called up Chern Song and he kindly helped me checked the place and venue for us. He told me "The meeting place is at Frue Plads at 10am. However, it is only 9am now." Thinking that he was not fully awake yet, I ignored his comment. While waiting for his sms to let us double check the venue, I commented to SX that he was not too awake as he told me it was only 9am though it was already 10am. Admist that comment, I suddenly remembered... DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME!!! Right at that moment, his sms arrived and the time was 9.18am. It was seriously a Eureka! moment. After that, we asked a passer-by "Is it 9.30am now or is it 10.30am now?" And she told us it was 9.30am because of daylight saving time! Hahas!!! That seemed exactly like a scene from a lousy drama series. Well, at least we finally learnt what daylight saving time means... Sigh... We never have this problem in Singapore where it's summer all year round... :(
After that scene in the morning, I suppose the rest of our day is pretty dull in comparision... I was really looking forward to going to Frederiksborg Castle as it was said in my guidebook that it is even more beautiful than Kronborg Castle. However, I must admit that I was a little disappointed upon reaching. It does not seem to be as big as Kronborg Castle and not as grand and majestic in comparison. I feel that casltes should be more isolated and look big and grand from afar. However, Frederiksborg Castle is not exactly isolated and it is definitely not that big and grand. Hence the disappointment. :( I must say I like Kronborg castle more. :P It is exactly like the image of a castle that I have in my mind since young. :)
Inside the castle, we visted the National Historical Museum. It has a collection of items from the olden days. Looking at the items on display, I cannot help thinking "每一样物品都有自己的故事,但却不能说话". If the artifacts could talk, I really wonder what wonderful stories it could tell us. Looking at them, it made me think of a sentence from a Chinese poem that our teacher taught us in the past... "今人不见古时月,今月曾经照古人。" Although we cannot see the people of the past, the artifacts remained and allowed us a glimpse into the life of the past. I really wonder which of the items that we are using now would become an artifact for the future generation... What kind of story would they piece together from what we left behind?
Looking at the castles, it makes me understand why people want to study history. Seeing the things that real people used in the past, somehow, it made the people alive again. Looking at a dining room filled with food, you could almost imagine the people dining, talking, laughing and socialising. I think it is at moments like this when one wonders why one is not a historian. I would really love to hear all the stories behind every single item and paintings... however, some wishes in life are simply impossible I suppose. Hahas! :)
I can't wait to visit another castle again!!! Entering a castle is just like entering a time travel machine which sends one all the way back to the past!! :) I feel like I am fulfilling all my childhood dreams of marrying a prince and living in a castle. Of course, these are all childish imagination but I am really glad that there are still Kings and Queens in this world. :)
