Someone at the school I work for hates me. For the past four years I've worked as a substitute teacher and was the first pick for many of the teachers. About 18 months ago I damaged my voice (teaching!) and had to cut back quite a bit. I've slowly but surely fallen off the preferred list and landed on the shit list. This year I get called mostly to work as a teacher's aide or lunch/recess duty. Today, I was asked to do lunch duty on Monday and upon further investigation, it's actually more like janitorial duty as I'm required to take out the massive lunch trash cans to the dumpster. I don't feel like I'm too good to do these things, but I am angry that because I've had to turn a few teachers down, I'm now the person who gets all the jobs no one else wants. This is a cautionary tale to all those who take a few years off work to raise children. I'm college educated and making $7 an hour doing all the crap work no one else will. Yes, I am bitter!
