My 2017 fic production in review, stolen from
trobadora.
Total number of posted stories in 2017: 15 (That is SO LITTLE for me! And I’m pretty sure everything but the slavefic & the Christmas fic was written for exchanges.)
Total word count: 325 530 words, of which 179 381 words were fanfic. (Obviously, the largest part of that was the slavefic with ~120k.)
Fandoms written in: American Gods (TV), Anastasia the musical, Dream Daddy, Westworld and 3 different Les Mis canons (the Brick, Dallas and 1952).
Fandoms I wouldn’t have expected to write this year: All of them that aren’t Les Mis. :D I’m pretty monofannish, so it’s always a surprise to find out what the one or two fandoms are I’ll get interested in enough to want to write for Yuletide!
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? More than I thought I would, though I’m pretty sure I was aiming at 300k for the year regardless.
What’s your own favorite story of the year?
Sold to the Law. It’s a story that literally only exists to make me happy, and it’s so good at that! I was looking something up in older chapters recently and totally got sucked into rereading all the guilty convent sex-surprise, for some reason I was totally catering to my own id there.
My best story of this year: Probably
The Subject of a Heart, which is one of those things where I started writing and it just kept flowing out of me, which is always a good sign. It’s a story about making deals with the devil, featuring the afterlife and St. Peter, which is a sort of setting I always want to write and I always find incredibly daunting, because so much hinges on getting the atmosphere that’s in your head down onto paper. For some reason, I didn’t even have to think about it here, it all just came rushing out and looked exactly as it had in my head.
My most popular story of this year: Including the slavefic,
Sold to the Law, which at 74 chapters isn’t really a surprise. Excluding the slavefic, it’s
Code Word: Toulon, which is a surprise! I was pretty sure that would please no one but me and my recipient.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I hesitate to say the Westworld fic - I never heard back from the recip but honestly it’s entirely possible that it’s not very good. /o\ Also where are all the people wanting to squee about Valjean getting flogged with me. (Ahaha no worries, I know why that is not as popular a trope as I wish it were. :D)
Most fun story to write: Definitely
Sold to the Law. I didn’t do any writing on it in December, just editing, and getting back to writing this story in January was just SO MUCH FUN! I think the most rewarding thing about longfic is how well you come to know your characters, and after so much time building up the story, there are all these points you’ve been looking forward to where you can wring buckets of emotional pay-off out of these two.
Sexiest story/story with the single sexiest moment: Also
Sold to the Law. This is the year they went from grudging respect to emotionally fraught sex to an actual, real, emotionally honest consensual relationship (or well, as emotionally honest as you can be when you try to never ever talk about your feelings, but at least they’re trying! :D). And there was a lot of sex.
(Although actually, it might be
The Price of Purity? It’s hard to decide. That story was definitely just written for an audience of one, but I’m still so into the thought of Valjean & cock cages. It’s such a good kink for him.)
Hardest story to write: Hmm, I don’t think there was anything I really struggled with this year. Struggling as in, being close to giving up. From all the new canons I gave a go for exchanges, Westworld was probably the hardest to try and write though, and the one where I was the most uncertain about the result.
Did you take any writing risks this year? Yep! Every single exchange fic for a non-Les Mis canon was, haha. But sometimes that pays off - for some reason I really enjoyed writing for Anastasia, and I’m still quite proud of the little pre-relationship adventure fic
The Deputy Commissioner’s Office!
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? I went with another 300k goal for Get Your Words Out - I shouldn’t have much trouble hitting that again. Honestly what I should aim for is probably 400k with at least 200k not fanfic, so we’ll see how that goes. :D
Stories I haven’t yet written, but intend to: Honestly I’m so emotionally wrapped up in the slavefic I have no idea what I’ll do when it’s done. Sometimes I worry a bit because fandom has dwindled so much, or at least most of people who’d chat Les Mis with me have left, and what if I’ll never get that back? On the other hand, there’ll be a new adaptation, and no matter what I feel right now, new, niggling fic obsessions will pop up and demand to be written. (Also, I could always do porny slavefic AU scenarios if I miss them too much.)
