I never thought that a political convention could be so fascinating--until I went to one yesterday. Yep, that's right. I was actually a delegate to the NDGOP convention in GF (any more initials I can throw in there?). It was a blast. And exciting! I originally only wanted to go because I thought I might see people I knew there that I haven't had a chance to see in a while. As it turned out, I didn't see any of them and it was still amazing.
It was amazing because we have some really excellent candidates this year. Rick Berg was elected to run against Earl Pomeroy. What a race that will be! Gov. John Hoeven was also voted as the ND Republican Senate candidate, in the race to claim Dorgan's seat. Although it will be a hard race, he seems unbeatable at this point. And boy, does he have the support of the people!
One thing that I really liked was that there was no real bad-mouthing of the other party. There were a few comments--they were few and mild, and generally used as jokes.
Anyway, it was quite an experience--one that I could go on about for a long time. But perhaps one had to be there to appreciate the feeling.
