Oh, they couldn't stuff more tropes in there if they tried, but that's the magic: they wedged 'em in so tight I thought the movie would bust its seams, but they all fit! together! It was hilarious and dry and dark (I really wouldn't call this a movie for kids) with bullets and laser beams flying. Harrison Ford played a slightly atypical character for him. Daniel Craig-not so much, he was just as steely-jawed and blue-eyed (I think they used CGI to enhance the blue. Someone used an airbrush or something) and Lone Rider enigmatic and bare-chested, bare-fisted, gun-slinging (with a twist!) as you'd expect. But without giving anything more away, I just adored this, it was everything I'd hoped for, my two (actually, three) favorite things tasting great together. And in the tradition of cowboy movies, it was a little bit sexist, a little bit racist, but, ah. Not as bad as it could have been? It tried anyway.
Plus, you know: Daniel Craig, bare-chested, and did I mention wet? All wet and dirty and he needed some soap.
guh.
