fandom meta: unexpected benefits

Jul 16, 2011 18:57

hey. so, if you've noticed I've been writing a little more lately, it's all sga-saturday's fault. I thought I was co-starting the comm with lilyfarfalla to get more SGA fanworks out of people for my own selfish pleasure, but, you know, I had to write the prompts too or be a hypocrite. only, what began as 400- or 700-wd snippets starting turning into 8K wd things.

and I wanted all kinds of different stories, all genres, pairings, etc. for our little comm, so I had to jump out of my usual grooves, and what do you know: blammo, crazy-assed crossover fusions and shit. and het! me! Jesus.

and, hey, the little comm that could is doing great, with a nice diversity of contributions weekly, so lilyfarfalla and I must be doing something right, or at least we're not doing anything terribly wrong, which I think more than anything else is the key to a good comm: just let the people be free to create. we have some really awesome stuff going on, poetry, art and stories of all kinds, and everyone is *supportive* and friendly, so consider coming out to play if you haven't already. rules are easy: just create something relating to the prompt (this week it's 'rare') and post it before next Saturday noon PST.

you'll be surprised what happens. I know I was. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer crack fusion? in July?

I mean.
