RIP Robin Williams 1951-2014
I will never forget the sketch from Reality...What a Concept in which Robin Williams basically ad libbed an entire Shakespearean soliloquy about 3 Mile Island -- the man's mouth was hooked into his brain so perfectly, so completely, that his off-the-wall creativity ran off his tongue like paisley carpet. "Aye, the plant doth glow in the night like a huge acne zit."
He never stopped, never stopped. I'm sure part of it was illegal substances at the time (this was the 80s after all) but a huge portion was his incredible intellect. I found his brand of humor a little overwhelming at my age because a lot of it went over my head, but that was what was so delightful about him: you always had to reach. He would throw pathos in there and blindside you, too: that was no gimmick.
He will be sorely, sorely missed. Another one gone too soon. My thoughts go out to his family and all who held him dear.
