SGA: Science Bros
For December Meme: SGA - Who had the better bromance, and why? Lorne and Zelenka or Carson and Rodney? for j_r_hartley.
To be absolutely truthful, Lorne and Zelenka don't ping for me at all...I can't remember a single scene of them together, although I'm sure they have some. I'm just not that versed I guess. Sorry, j_r. Feel free to point some out. However, Zelenka and Rodney, now there's a couple of science bros - in fact, I think their relationship is far closer than Carson and Rodney's, despite the retcon of Sunday and Rodney's 'best friend' comment in that episode. (Buh?)
I really think, next to Sheppard, of course, Radek is Rodney's best friend, though both would deny it hotly. Radek and Rodney spend probably fifty percent of their time together on Atlantis getting in each other's hair, stomping all over each other's hypotheses, and tearing into each other's equations, while everyone else in the labs ducks and covers. :) It's a match made in sweet science hell. And I don't doubt that Radek's (and Col. Carter's when she was around) is the only brain on Atlantis Rodney truly respects other than his own. They even finish each other's sentences when working on a problem together. When one of them is in danger, the other one comes rushing to find the answer. <3
Carson, OTOH, Rodney ridicules with impunity, although he does bear fondness for him. Everyone is fond of Carson, don't get me wrong, but I don't see Rodney spending as much time with Carson, for good reason (and Sunday actually supports that). They just don't seem to have as much in common, including interests and temperaments. As opposed to Sheppard, with whom Rodney can play games and crack wise, Carson, though he sometimes gives his own back in snappy banter, is for the most part inclined toward peaceful pursuits and gushy sentimentality, and Rodney is purely impatient with that kind of stuff. They're just not a good match, unless you're talking romantically. I don't judge when it comes to pairings, because let's face it - pretty much anything goes when hard-ons are involved.
Regardless, this is only my own ¢.02. I'd like to hear from the rest of you guys.
