OTW: AO3 going down for short DB upgrade in 3 hrs
In 3 hours your Systems Monkeys are taking down the Archive for a quick db upgrade to Percona 5.5 (now that we've got the RAM upgraded, we want the db with better multi-threaded support. I did warn you!) Details here.
It should be a quick downtime this time. When James and I upgraded the instances on the slave server (yes, bad name I know) they took ten minutes each, tops. But we have to do it clean and by the book, so I'm thinking, 1/2 hour? We're starting at midnight Pacific time.

ETA: it will take us a little longer than I thought: I have to upgrade the secondary slave, and James is upgrading nginx. So hang onto your shorts.
ETA2: we are back! it was a rock-out. very smooth, considering how much we accomplished. now we'll get a deeper view into things and a big performance bump from the db we hope. bwee!
