When I and some friends were going to watch a movie yesterday, I suggested "Master and Commander," primarily motivated by a desire to meet Stephen in his "natural habitat" of movie!canon, as it were. My friends had seen it before and enjoyed it, so were amenable to a reviewing.
I found it distinctly odd to watch an unfamiliar movie in which I found myself already liking one character before he even appeared onscreen (as distinct from, say, watching the Harry Potter movies when I know the books).
I enjoyed the movie, both for Stephen himself (I was most impressed by his self-surgery and his kindness to the boy) and for the dynamic of his friendship with Aubrey. I was touched by their somewhat-mutual willingness to sacrifice their own interests for the friend's: when Aubrey stops on the Galapagos for surgery and stays for Stephen's exploration, and when Stephen drops his cages to run back and tell Aubrey about the ship. Stephen was my favorite character in the movie, even without the influence of H_H.
I know that without knowledge of the books, I can't really say anything definite, but from what I now know ... you play him well. Good job!

Stephen and Jack are definitely Best Friends Forever. I hope eventually they can interact more in h_h -- Jack-mun being fairly busy and all, and Jack being a more difficult character to write in terms of English dialect.
