Kate and Edmund had a nice chat in the store. Laurence came along and got a bit jealous, but was relieved to find out Edmund wasn't Jamie. Edmund left, promising Kate trifle, and Kate and Laurence went to Kate's apartment for coffee. There he's told Kate about the vision he had of Nanshe, and she finds it to be cheering news. She's invited him to stay for dinner.

"Is there anything I can do to help you, Kate?" Laurence says, and I smile.
"I can set you to peeling potatoes if that would make you feel useful," I say. I let his hand go with a faint feeling of regret and busy myself in the kitchen, getting things ready for dinner. I pass him a peeler, and the kitchen is filled with the sound of chopping and peeling. Soon things are gently bubbling on the stove, and the air smells sweetly of herbs. I push the kitchen window open wide, and the early evening air comes in, bringing with it a pleasant breeze.
"I love this time of day," I say.
