Every time I try to come back to my journal I feel like writing a post that starts something like, "Since last we spoke..." but that would be just quite impossible. So today's rant...Technology.
I have been torrenting for a couple of years now. It's a great way to get a hold of items that just aren't available for purchase anymore. Also, since my internet service is not quite speedy enough for streaming video, it's actually easier for me to torrent a tv show rather than hulu it. And then I get to keep it on disc and watch while in my bed.
Anyway, recently I have been having errors in my downloads. I finally removed Vuze (bittorrent downloading software) from my computer and switched to uTorrent. It's in program search capabilities are not as good/user-friendly but its FAQs and troubleshooting support are much better. I have been trying to download the new Doctor Who, and while trying to download all four DVD released seasons at once, I kept running into my problem. I began the troubleshooting process. I have now changed my folder structure for the downloads, removed all software from my computer which may have been randomly accessing the files behind the scenes, and completely reset my wireless network, setting up my router manually so I have closer control of my ports. It took me almost all day. Then I got a full half hour of download before the problem started up again. The only thing left may be that the file is no good. So stopped downloading it and in another two hours got another smaller download to complete.
Luckily in between plugging and unplugging wires and running scans and virus checks I got two loads of laundry and a load of dishes done. I also gathered up info for another project and filed away some old financial statements.
Tomorrow I have to work again (a closing shift) and then I start a a 9 day vacation. I have a lot to do.
