Public Service Announcement: CNV day is here!!! - 3rd Update!

Feb 06, 2012 20:58

A shout-out to all the people I'd been trying (by leaving mysterious hints about female friendship, female pilot in WWII and lots of tissues needed) to convince to eventually read Elizabeth Wein's Code Name Verity - on a thread of Rachel Manija's, I remember, and wherever else...

geez louise, you're like a one-woman invasion force! If this turns into a bestseller you will have to take most of the credit!

*grin* I think Egmont UK already had a bit of an idea of what they potentially had in CNV when they made you launch title for their new imprint, organised a blog tour and created a video. Not to mention you have three different publishers for the book, so people in the English speaking world are definitely convinced this has oomph ( ... )

yes, that Booksmugglers review is a real coup. And I do think the online attention is hugely important - I went into my local bookstore today (a chain) and they were astonishingly unhelpful / unenthusiastic - "all our ordering is done through the manager and he's on holiday till march" - GAH. I will keep on badgering them though!

That's what the Americans say a LOT in their posts. I had hoped it would be better in the UK. No longer buying books in my native language has made me completely unaware of how this is handled over in Germany nowadays.

I am getting the impression that Egmont have pitched it more aggressively to the independents than the chains, and it *has* been spotted by some of my friends in independent bookshops throughout the UK - well-displayed, too. Unfortuantely we haven't got an independent bookshop in Perth. It's early days yet as far as sales are concerned, so fingers crossed. (and the reviewers are all saying, "THIS IS THE ONE OF THE BEST BOOK'S I'VE EVER READ." Which is nice. If a bit ego-inflating.)

Enjoy THAT while it lasts, I say ^^. You have enough perspective not being a debut author. And if CNV is a huge hit, you'll be getting all the envious people coming out of the woodwork, heh.

well, now, ENVY. There's a thought. I have on occasion been the object of vitriol, but have never been well-known enough to induce envy. I shall consider myself warned. (And, I hope, armed a little.)
