Just finished reading: Sherwood Smith's Once a Princess (with spoilers)

May 07, 2009 23:41

How rare and delightful: two excellent books read in two days (and not just rare because my eye trouble isn't over yet, only lying low for a while). And they're very different too, so they don't take away from each other.

Glad you enjoyed the story--though the conclusions people come to re relationships interest me, especially when assumptions are made that aren't true.

^^ - you mean I assumed something that wasn't even in the book? Or that I followed the thoughts of certain characters that will turn out not to be true?

I know why I never call them real reviews when I do them ^^, I don't remember in enough detail when I vanish into the story and come out at the end.

Or did I misunderstood your addendum completely, heh?

Your assumption about Roger and Sun. *g*

Oooh!!! will that be made clearer in the next book? Or should I just ask you right out what the truth was there, because it'll never be referred to again?

Hey, good review. And I like your blog. Mind if I friend you?

Hi Janicu, go ahead if you want to. But if you've looked back a bit you've realised that I don't post here much (it's basically a reading friends list journal). I mirror the entries on my blog www.bookish.net here, but even there I don't post much anymore in recent years.

Which has the advantage that I don't bloat your friends' page much ^^. I comment a LOT on LJ though. When I post it tends to be reviews, memes or moanings about my troubles in real life ^^;

Yay, you liked Clockwork Heart, too. And have some nifty reviews, so I'm adding you right back.

For another LJ user who has similar tastes to us, too (with some manga and anime thrown in), may I suggest meganbmoore.

Well I don't mind if you're a sporadic poster! :) I've added you. And thanks for the rec of meganbmoore, I'll check her out.

You reminded me of a small, small subplot I really loved: the girl who is love with the soldier, but she's spying against the resistance and he's spying for it. That was *brilliant*--remember it?

Right ^^, Tam and Marka and we even saw them again in the second book. No string of the story remains unattached.

I am so in awe of her sense of timing and drama and the narration ^^.

I just read this last weekend, and loved it, and am desperatly waiting for Twice a Prince to come...and it was so cool to see The Author Herself here in the comments! (I had the same wondering thought about Roger too, and am glad to have that cleared up!)

You'll enjoy that too! It's a perfect end (basically this is one book anyway). I met sartorias as a commenter on someone else's lj and when I realised she was one of my favourite authors I just put her into my reading list. She's very approachable ^^ on her own lj or on the Satorias-deles community athanarel, and answers questions on her books quite often.

How did you come across this post, by the way?
