Uhg.

This sort of thing makes me heartsick.

HPV is a sexually transmitted disease sometimes called genital warts. It most often undetectable visually and rarely has any symptoms. 50% of sexually active people have it. That’s 1 in 8 of all 15 year olds in this country have sexually transmitted HPV if you’re counting. What is really ugly about it is that it usually doesn’t exhibit symptoms. It just scars women up causing much of sterility and almost all cervical cancer. Not nearly every case of HPV leads to sterility or cervical cancer, but something like 98% of cervical cancer is caused by HPV.

Historically, planned parenthood types would hiss and spit at any insinuation that HPV "caused" cervical cancer. They got angry about "fear-mongering," since the great majority of HPV never becomes cancerous. We weren’t allowed to say it when I was involved in the highschool abstinence education thing.

So now, when it serves, HPV vaccine is called a "cancer vaccine." So just to be clear, this is a genital warts vaccine. Not a cancer vaccine. I don’t really have an opinion either way about using it I guess, but at least be clear about what it is. I wish we didn’t have to vaccinate our 11 year old daughters against sexually transmitted diseases though.
