Yeah, I remember UPN! I don't know enough about the industry/business to answer that question, but that is a good question. What I do know is that networks are more sensitive to catering to a black audience than catering to an Asian audience because they see that Asian audiences are more indifferent to seeing Caucasians in mass media all the time. When Alice Wu (who directed Saving Face which is an AWESOME movie and works in Hollywood) told this to me... I suddenly realized that it's so true. And it's only now that I find it kind of infuriating that networks maintain this status quo while we're forced to settle.

I like the fact that Disney Channel recognizes that diversity is a good thing! And one of my favourite characters is London from Suite Life and she's this totally ditzy character... but not stereotyped because of her race. On the other side, most of the main characters are still Caucasian and I feel like Disney keeps portraying the same upper-middle class suburban setting while exoticizing anything deviant of that. For example, there was this movie about a girl named Wendy Wu (portrayed by the same actress who plays London) and her ~destiny~ to learn martial arts and fulfill some ancient prophecy or some shit. I mean, COME ON, GIVE ME A BREAK. This is just a bastardization of Chinese culture. If you really want to be ~diverse~ include something about the Monkey King, geez. /rant
