You might have read my
little rant about 13375p33k and txtspk being the main murderer of the English language...
But apparently NZQA thinks NOT! NZQA=New Zealand Qualifications Authority. The NZQA has decided to APPROVE THE USE OF TXTSPK DURING OUR END OF YEAR NCEA (National Certificate of Education Achievement) WRITTEN EXAMS.
That's RIGHT! ALL New Zealanders taking Levels One, Two, Three AND SCHOLARSHIP exams WILL BE ABLE TO ANSWER USING TXTSPK. If you still don't know what that is... IT IS TEXT SPEAK.
Stf lk dis. Eng wrds splt lk ths. OMFG. Myb frm nw on I wll typ lk ths jst in cse NCEA decides 2 fail me 4 nt usn txtspk (English Translation: Stuff like this. English words spelt like this. OH MY MOTHER FUCKING GOD. Maybe from now on I will type like this just in case NCEA decides to fail me for not using text speak.)
The NCEA system is ALREADY a laughing stalk throughout New Zealand, we are already DISSING the system through the roof already. Now they just GO and APPROVE TXTSPK for examinations... have we gone too far? Our differences... first country to allow women to vote, first country to be completely nuclear free... to invent jumping off bridges as a sport... legalise prostitution and now approve txtspk in examinations?!!!
Dear NZQA,
I hated you before. You've provided me plenty of stress and amusement. Wht da muthafukin hell r u tryin 2 pul?! cnt u stp all ths bullsht ur spttin ot?! (English Translation: What the mother fucking hell are you trying to pull?! Can't you stop all this bullshit you're spitting out?!)
Kthxbai.
Good lord, they introduced NCEA so students in Years 11 to 13 won't feel too stressed when it comes to exams... are they trying to make it seem like it isn't even an examination?!
The second language of thousands of teenagers, text language usually incorporates abbreviated words and phrases such as txt for "text", lol for "laugh out loud" or "lots of love" and CU for "see you".
The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) is still strongly discouraging students from using anything other than full English, but says credit will be given if the answer "clearly shows the required understanding", even if it contains text speak.
The authority's deputy chief executive, qualifications, Bali Haque, said students should aim to make their answers as clear as possible.
"Markers involved in assessing NCEA (National Certificate of Educational Achievement) exams are trained professionals, experienced in interpreting the variety of writing styles and language uses encountered during the marking process," he said.

Txt speak approved for exams9th November, 2006
Secondary school students will be able to use text speak in written examinations this year, legitimising a language loved by teenagers.
Txt spk ruling makes Nelson principal LOLMr Boyce said text language might be acceptable in maths or science exams but certainly not when writing English essays.
Oh so there's still a bit of hope...
Secondary school students will be able to use text speak in written examinations this year, legitimising a language loved by teenagers. Next thing you know we'll just be txtn our answers to the NZQA office.
Text language risky move in NCEA examinationsThis like is from the New Zealand Herald. IT IS REAL PEOPLE. WE ARE REALLY DOING IT.
Text language allowed in examsAnd this one is from ONENEWS.
Thread forum I don't know whether I should cry or just give in. If they are approving this now, who knows when it will be that they DEMAND it to be used in order to GET ACHIEVED.
WE ARE GOING TO HELL. And I was JUST PLANNING TO PULL MY INTERNET LINE SO I COULD STUDY.
You guys who decided to do just that a while back to pay more attention to your NCEA studies really missed out on this. I hope you guys are watching the news.
Or maybe NZQA is just working with Vodafone secretly just to boost business. Maybe they think more of us will sign up for the 2000txts for 10 bucks.
EDIT:
Over here Monolith wrote: advocats in a forum and got this reply: Lamedoggo wrote: Too big a word sorry. You must use the txt word.
I can just imagine the marking schedule. We're going to get our papers posted back to us with red pen all over the pages all pointing at one thing: "Sorry, the words you used are too difficult, please use txtspk in the future."
EDIT 2: I can't wait until the Aussies get a whiff of this... ROVE is gonna have MORE THAN A FIELD DAY.
