A full day into my LA trip, friends of mine, and things are going quite swimmingly. I awoke at 7:30am Saturday morning, and after quickly throwing together everything I hadn't already packed the previous day, I was out the door. My flight wasn't worth mentioning, got off a bit early, and
poiuppx was at the airport to meet me. We cruised out of LAX before noon, first to Best Buy. We were trying to find the second and third volume of the Gurren-Lagann, and they sadly only had the third. I had really been hoping to show him the rest of the series, as he does did seem to be digging it immensely, and for him the show really is required viewing. It's not as though I didn't have other things planned- wheels within wheels, as the man said. We then hit up his place of work, Barnes & Noble, where he was awesome enough to get me the first volumes of 100 Bullets and 30 Days of Night with his employee discount. We grabbed a quick lunch, then embarked on an epic quest up and down Pico Avenue. We first hit Jay & Silent Bob's Secret Stash, which had apparently been converted from a video store ages ago, and our last stop before returning to Alex's car parked in the garage of the mall where he works was his previous place of employment, a quaint little used record store. Alex spent ungodly amounts of money- it was just like old times.
We then returned to his place, where I was warmly greeted by his mother as always, and then we sat down and had us a good old-fashioned marathon. I introduced Alex to the joy that is Soul Eater. We're up through episode 12 at the moment, and he is loving the crap out of it. I'll freely admit the show is a mishmash of so many shonen conventions, but it just does what it does so well.
The man's got work through most of today, so me, him and Ria watched a good deal more of Baccano! this morning before he headed off to the mines. Been pretty mellow otherwise. More on events as they occur.
