Been an average week, but I do want to mention something that, either surprisingly or entirely unsurprisingly, you might not have heard about.
On Friday night, Amazon.com was having what appeared to be a sale of Marvel Omnibuses- collections that normally went for 75 to 100 dollars were on sale for between 8 to 15. It was discovered Saturday morning that it was a glitch, and the mistake was fixed. I attempted to order some things, but by the time my order was processed, everything had sold out. I did, however, receive a $25 credit to my account for not getting what I ordered when they said they had it in stock. Last night, the Barnes & Noble store had a similar problem, but for a much more limited range of products. Still, managed to snag the Walking Dead Compendium and the Deluxe collection of Criminal. $110 worth of comics for $30, shipping included. The problem, by the way, was attributed to Diamond Distributors, who are responsible for pricing, and many online retailers take their pricing cues from them. Diamond is currently blacklisted at Amazon, remains to be seen what action B&N will be taking.
And now more music:
The "(500) Days of Summer" soundtrack presents track after track of pop/rock/alerna-whatever joy. As the film rises above stereotypes of every romantic comedy before it, so too does the soundtrack avoid the trappings of what one would come to expect from a film that falls where this sublime film must (unfortunately) fall, categorically:
Regina Spektor- "Us"Mumm-Ra- "She's Got You High" Califone is a quirky post-rock group from Chicago, amazingly. Their lyrics are quirky, their melodies, winding, layered, and rife with dense lyrics. Most bands worth listening to don't do well when one attempts to take them in at one listen, but Califone ranks higher among those bands you'd do well to have the repeat button at the ready for:
"Million Dollar Funeral""Vampiring Again" N.A.S.A., which stands for North America South America, are two DJs with a wealth of guest stars at their command who know how to work a beat and direct star talent. The detractors *coughPitchforkcough* will say it lacks direction, but those jackasses don't know how to have fun:
"Strange Enough Feat. Karen O, Ol' Dirty Bastards, & Fatlip""Spacious Thoughts Feat. Tom Waits & Cool Keith" astrokittie's birthday thang tomorrow. Lookin' to be epic.
