so my roommate bethany is an elementary ed major and she was making some flashcards with simple multiplication problems on them as part of a project serving to study how children learn math. i was up, we were talking, she decided to practice on me. i did horribly.
to the 4x8 flashcard i answered 64. not even close! correct answer: 32
to the 4x7 flashcard i answered first 38, then 32, then 28. correct answer: 28
to the 8x6 flashcard i honestly had no idea, not even a guess. correct answer: 48
to the 7x8 flashcard i answered 64. correct answer: 56
i am absolutely horrified. we were both laughing so hard we were crying rivers of shame. at least mine was of shame, hers was probably pity. i don't know man, i came from a good school and i consider myself a pretty bright kid. i was never good at multiplication tables, i couldn't get them at all when i was in elementary school. this is just really awful, so i thought i'd share with you. i probably shouldn't post this because i'll get at least one comment about how dumb i actually am. so that's cool. but i'm doin' it anyway!
the good news is that she shared with me some techniques that i think will really help me and others who do math on a third grade level!!
