How to upload your own Mood Themes

Following a post by muskyncense this afternoon about the problems he had after he had uploaded a Mood Theme through the "regular channels" of the LJ Admin Console, there is an easier way to do it, that you might not know about if, like him, you have never done it before.  Here's what you do:

Find the Mood Theme you want in a community and download the file.  It will most likely be a .zip file and will most probably need something like WinZip to extract it.  If you're on a Mac, you won't have WinZip, but the computer already has its own software and will unzip your file without you having to buy anything or add anything on.

When you've extracted the file, upload the images to a photo hosting site such as PhotoBucket.  A lot of communities tell you that you will need a special program in order to upload bulk files to PhotoBucket (something like Flock).  However if your internet connection is strong enough, you can upload them directly to PhotoBucket without adding anything at all!

When the pics are uploaded make sure you don't change any of the file names!

Next go to the page which allows you to Customize your journal.  Find the section where you can choose the Mood Themes.  You will see a link which allows you to add and/or create your own mood themes.  Click it.

Next you will be taken to a page where you have to enter the name of your theme.  Enter it into the field and click "Create".  This will then bring you to another page where you can enter the URLs for all the mood pictures.  Enter the "Direct URL" listed in your PhotoBucket or other photo host links.

Click "Save" and then "Use".

That's it!
