I usually wouldn't review a product before i'd used it a couple of times, but I am posting this really for
touchoco as I know she was looking for something for her own holidays.
So yesterday when I went down to my local Lush store, I decided to buy a couple of soaps to try instead of shower cream or gel, because sometimes the bottles take up too much room in my toilet bag. After much hesitation and indecision, I almost bought Sultana of Soaps. Then as chance would have it, I reached over and picked up a soap called Vanilla In The Mist, which I have read about in my Lush Times. Oh the smell... I had to have that one!! So I picked a relatively well-sized piece, that will last a while but which will also comfortably fit in my soap box.
I wanted to make sure that what I had chosen for my holidays actually did smell OK in the shower, as in the past I have had a few things by other makes - most notably a rose scented shower gel by Sephora - which made me gag when they lathered up under water. I took my soap, and instead of just rubbing it "nakedly" on my body, I rubbed it into a shower flower and then lathered it up with a little bit of water.
At first, I couldn't smell anything much, and i became disappointed. Then, as i started to wash my skin with it, the smell intensified and it smelled absolutely gorgeous!! It smells of vanilla and coffee, with a hint of caramel. Like when you walk past a coffee shop or when you open a tub of coffee flavour ice cream!! It is a nice warm smell, and in a way quite exotic and tropical. The soap lathers up yellow, which is different and ads to the exoticism of it in a way. I've read on the Lush UK site in the reviews that some people think it smells of curry. Well, I don't agree. Although fragrances smell different to every person, I think in this case the curry smell is a psychological type "ping-back" because the lather is yellow and it does remind one a little of curry... if one wants to send ones thoughts in that direction.
I think if it is your first time purchasing a Lush soap, this is the one to try, providing of course you like coffee and vanilla!! It leaves skin lovely and soft, you can smell it for ages afterwards... on your skin as well as in the bathroom!
