...because there's only *one* episode left for next week before they go on hiatus for the month of March due to the Writer's Strike. New eps will supposedly start airing April 24th. Aaaaanyway.....I will now gush over the last two eps, "Dream a Little Dream of Me" and "Mystery Spot". (Warning: Lots of serious fangirling over Dean will ensue, and I was even fangirling Sammy this week, too!)
"Dream a Little Dream of Me"
Reminded me of The X-Files ep where Mulder and Scully inhale mushroom spores and they have crazy dreams. Bobby was in the ep so I was psyched already! I thought it was a great idea for everyone to find out how Bobby got into hunting -- a little shocking and quite gruesome, really, but then again, there always seems to be a family connection that set hunters on the chosen path. And then what can I say about being inside Dean's head??? The first thing Dean and Sammy encounter in Dean's dreams is Ben's mother from "The Kids Are Alright" professing her love for him! Total Awwwww! moment for me. He's got this tough personality that everyone sees, but inside there is a softer, dare I say, sentimentally romantic side to him. And I totally loved that they brought that up in the show. I've always had the impression that when it came to becoming romantically involved with women, Dean didn't particularly care to become emotionally attached to any of them. But having that small scene from this ep, just added that extra layer to him, which, I think I already mentioned, I love!!!
Dare I even touch the scene when he comes face-to-face with himself? I thought the show did a great job of physically showing an intangible struggle that we all at times have with ourselves and then took it to the just intense level. The metaphors are pretty blatant, but it really hits you how internally damaged Dean is, especially the dialogue while he's pouncing away at himself.
On a lighter note, where the heck did the whole business of Sammy crushing on *Bela* come from?!? I'll admit, the Dean Girl in me is seriously euphoric over TPTB choosing *not* to have Dean crushing on her, but it's mildly irritating that Sammy would. And for goodness sake, is this all Bela does? Frickin' steal? It's gettin' old.
"Mystery Spot"
Can I just say I love the trickster? He's a demi-god and he's part of the natural order of things and he is chaos. I really like him.
I had "Heat of the Moment" by Asia stuck in my head for the rest of the week. The Dean Girl in me is wagging her finger disappointedly because I actually found all the different ways that Dean dies extremely funny: choking on a sausage! electrocuted by the razor! the piano landing on him! slipping in the shower! Hahahahah!! And then there's the dialogue! My god, who wrote this script?? It was so funny! A pig and a poke! Seriously, who didn't laugh at that? And that scene where Sammy says everything Dean says at the exact same time. Man, that had me in stitches!
And this is why I love this show: it's able to go from slapstick funny to completely troubling and serious without feeling like a switch just happened. When Dean dies on that Wednesday and we get the montage of Sammy obsessing over the trickster, he essentially becomes his father. Sammy is downright scary--and frickin' hot, ohmygod! This happened last time in "Born Under a Bad Sign"! Sammy became all smokin' hot the minute he shed the nice boy persona. And this probably says more about me than anything else, but that scene where he starts stitchin' himself up from that gunshot wound all by himself was just smokin'. Hoo boy! Yes, I'll admit it, I have a fetish for Evil!Sammy. There. But seriously, kudos to Jared for doing a fabulous job with this ep. I especially loved how he was able to emote so much with his face without dialogue. Loved it.
Every sci-fi show must do a time loop ep. I thought SPN did a fantastic job with this one.
