My friend, Liz, and I headed down to the teacher appreciation sale at Scholar's Choice yesterday morning. The store opens at 10 a.m. and the deal is that if you have a teacher membership, you get 20% off every item you buy that day. We were down at the store by 9:30 a.m. and ohmygod! it was TEH CRAZY!!! The line-up was huge and went past three stores beside Scholar's Choice. We didn't quite expect it to be true, but damn, those teachers really wanted their 20% off! And it wasn't young, beginning teachers at the front of the line. The first 10 teachers in line looked like seasoned, veteran teachers!
At this point, Liz and I decided to head across the street to McDonald's and have breakfast instead. We planned to go back to the store after the initial rush had settled. We chatted and caught up with each other's news for three hours and then headed back to the store. We went in and it looked like the mob had settled down. Oh, the *browsing* mob had settled down, all right, but it was because they had turned into the *cashier* line mob! The line-up for the cashier wound through the *entire* store and if you were trying to browse, you weren't able to access certain parts of the store because the line-up blocked your way.
I had grabbed a couple of things that I wanted, but then I saw the frickin' line and realized I would probably be waiting about an hour before I would get out of there with my purchases. So Liz and I decided to hell with it, and we walked out of the store without having bought anything and went home! I absolutely did not think there would be that many people in there. I mean, come on, it's 20% off, it's not 50% off! Crazy!
