HAPPY BIRTHDAY
absolutehymn007 The lake house was nearly a mile off the main road, an easy hike that Sanada welcomed gladly after being cooped up on the train for nearly four hours. Yagyuu walked next to him, the rustle of the plastic bags against his legs filling the comfortable silence. The air was fresh and clean, they were surrounded by green plants and towering trees. In the distance there was the sound of kids shouting as they played. Sanada had met up with Yagyuu when they were done with classes for the morning, and they had taken the train directly to the middle of nowhere. His parents brought him up to the little mountain-side lake when he was growing up, and now he wanted to share it with Yagyuu. Before this, only Yanagi and Yukimura had come along-and only with family, never with Sanada alone. There was a certain excitement that Sanada couldn’t quite put his finger on.
They had stopped in the small town purchasing supplies and food. Sanada had been told that the lake house was clean, just lacking a few things. They had split the bags between them, their clothes and a few school books tucked into duffel bags on their backs. They cleared a hill, Sanada grinning when the house loomed into view. The lock to the fence was old and rusty, the gate letting out a high pitched whine in protest when Sanada unlocked it, and pushed it open.
Once inside, they went straight to the kitchen, dropping the plastic bags on the counter. Sanada started putting the fresh food in the refrigerator; Yagyuu rinsed out the kettle and put it on the stove, cranking it up for tea. The house was well cared for and clean. Sanada’s family rented it out when they weren’t using it.
"I’ll take our bags to the bedroom." Yagyuu had poured the hot water into the mugs, the spicy sweet fragrance of tea filing the room. Sanada watched as the other man picked up their duffels, and walked from the kitchen .
"Second door on the right." Sanada called still busy with the fridge. It was his bedroom while he was here, and it was large enough for both of them. He busied himself with putting the rest of the food and supplies into the pantry. Yagyuu came back a little while later, sitting at the table that was tucked into the corner.
“I pulled out the futons, so by the time we get ready to sleep, they should be aired out." Yagyuu had set the tea on the table. Sanada joined him, placing a carton of cookies between them.
"Do you want to go down to the lake in a little while?" It was a warm day, and late enough in the afternoon that the water would be pleasant to swim in. Yagyuu nodded, taking a few cookies.
The comfortable quiet crept up around them once more. Sanada had brought the trip up a few weeks ago, and was surprised when Yagyuu agreed to go with him. He wasn’t quite sure what to call their relationship-if it was one. Often they’d end up finding lunch at the same place, or catch a movie. Once or twice they ended up going out for drinks together. More and more recently, they’d grab a bite to eat, or pretend to hang out with friends and end up back at either Sanada’s or Yagyuu’s place, tangled up in sheets and each other. In a way, he had brought the trip up as a way to test the waters, in Sanada’s mind; Yagyuu’s acceptance meant that there was a chance for more of a real relationship. Not that he didn’t mind the physical aspect at all.
"I’m going to put my clothes away." Sanada finished his tea, rose and put the cup in the sink.
"It’s done already." Yagyuu responded. He too got up, and put his empty cup in the sink. "I did it after I got the futons out of the closet. You’ve done a lot today." Sanada felt his breath hitch when Yagyuu wrapped around him from behind. Pale hands rested on Sanada’s stomach, Yagyuu’s weight a warm, comfortable presence at his back.
"I just bought the tickets." Sanada murmured, head tipping accordingly when Yagyuu kissed at his neck.
"You organized this." Yagyuu’s hands disappeared under Sanada’s shirt.
He shivered at the skin to skin contact, mouth dry. "I thought we were going to the lake." He felt Yagyuu shift closer, the press of hips against his own. "That can wait though." Sanada gently closed his hands around Yagyuu’s wrists, withdrawing his hands from under Sanada’s shirt. He turned, leaned in, kissed Yagyuu.
Sanada groaned into their kiss, pulling Yagyuu closer to him. Yagyuu’s hands were in his hair, the cap tossed aside. Sanada deepened the kiss, his hands sliding down the other man’s back, groped lightly at Yagyuu’s ass. He felt Yagyuu’s groan move through him, his hips grinding against Sanada’s.
"Bedroom." Yagyuu’s lip brushed against Sanada’s when he spoke. "We’ll flatten the futons ourselves."
Somehow they managed to untangle themselves and leave the kitchen. The trip down the hall was slow, sidestepping and teasing touches. Once or twice Yagyuu was pinned against the wall, Sanada taking his mouth in deliberate possession. They ended up tumbling onto the thick futons, Sanada braced over Yagyuu.
Clothes were removed; each inch of Yagyuu’s skin was kissed and touched. There was no need to be quiet, no hesitation, and no worry about someone walking in on them. Yagyuu arched and moaned under Sanada’s mouth, and by the time his pants were removed, Yagyuu was tugging at Sanada’s clothing with impatient urgency. Sanada pulled away long enough to shed his own t-shirt and pants. Long legs sprawled open, Sanada settling between them. He teased at Yagyuu, working the other man open. His mouth closed over Yagyuu’s kissing until both of them were gasping and breathless. Sanada’s hands went to Yagyuu’s hips, urged them up as he thrust into him.
Yagyuu clutched at his shoulders, nails biting into Sanada’s skin. His head bowed, face pressed to Yagyuu’s neck, sucking lightly at the heated skin. He took his time, touches lingering, pace slow and deep, shivering at the sounds that spilled from Yagyuu’s mouth. He kissed him again, Yagyuu wrapping around him completely. Sanada groaned when Yagyuu moved against him, his hips snapping against the other man’s. One hand worked between them, wrapped around Yagyuu’s length, stroking in time with his thrusts. Sanada was the first to come, crying out when Yagyuu tightened further around his cock. Yagyuu came a few moments later, spilling over Sanada’s hand. Sanada collapsed on top of Yagyuu, breathing harsh and loud, forehead pressed to Yagyuu’s shoulder.
Sanada sprawled out next to Yagyuu on the futons, reached for his shirt and wiped his hand clean. He rolled onto his back, heart still pounding, his chest rising and falling rapidly as he tried to calm down. Yagyuu rolled closer, head on Sanada’s chest, one arm slung low over Sanada’s hips. Sanada rubbed Yagyuu’s back, listening as the other man’s breathing evened out and eventually slowed.
The sun was close to setting when Sanada woke up. A blanket had been pulled over him, and Yagyuu was gone. He got up, pulled on a pair of sweat pants and a t-shirt, found a note taped to the mirror, telling him where Yagyuu had gone. Sanada grabbed the key off the kitchen counter and headed out the back door, the warm evening air slamming through him. The path down to the dock was well worn and familiar. He stopped when he came off the path, spotting Yagyuu at the end of the dock. The dock creaked a little when he stepped onto it, the wood warm and worn, darkened from age and the elements.
"How long did you sleep?" Sanada asked. Yagyuu was in shorts, wearing one of Sanada’s old shirts. One knee was to his chest, the other dangled, toes barely brushing the surface of the water.
"I’ve only been down here for half an hour or so." Yagyuu looked out onto the lake. The angle of the sun reflected off his glasses, making it hard for Sanada to read his expression. Sanada toed his shoes off, sat down on the edge of the dock next to Yagyuu. Their hands brushed, but neither pulled away. Maybe it was a trick of the light, but Sanada swore he could see color rising on Yagyuu’s face.
The sun slipped lower toward the horizon, shadows stretching out impossibly long around them. The space around them was free of sounds of people, rather bird calls and insects filled the air. A light breeze rippled the surface of the lake, the water lapping soothingly against the wood.
"What do you want for dinner?" Sanada asked at the same time as Yagyuu spoke. It sounded suspiciously like ‘I like you’, but figuring he was in error, Sanada cleared his throat, "What?"
"I like you." No hesitation, no further elaboration, just a simple declaration of intent. And it did things to Sanada. He had been confessed to before. Normally in high school and junior high by girls who stammered so much through their sentences that it took everything he had to stand there, as both of them blushed darker until he could gently let them down. This was different. This stirred something inside of him, something that he couldn’t put his finger on.
"What?" Sanada blinked, the words settling into his brain. His response was out of his mouth before he could stop it. Unsure, he reached for Yagyuu, hand rubbing at the man’s back. There was a soft sigh in response, Yagyuu’s body seemingly melting under his touch. Sanada’s fingers rubbed at the back of Yagyuu’s neck, sliding into the man’s hair, mussing it. Yagyuu turned, lips brushed against Sanada’s cheek.
"You don’t have to say anything." Yagyuu sounded amused. "I mean you did bring me out here. Alone, with you."
There was a pause, and then a wicked grin crept across his face. Sanada barely had time to react before he was floundering in the warm water. He tread water, pushing his hair from his face. He reached out, hand wrapping around Yagyuu’s ankle with one hand, the other grabbing the man’s other leg and pulled him in as well. Yagyuu splashed him, Sanada laughing as he retaliated. They were soon breathless and soaked through. Sanada pulled Yagyuu to him, kissing him, hidden from view. Yagyuu pulled away, nipping at Sanada’s lower lip.
"You’re a jerk." Sanada glared at him, gently pushing wet hair from Yagyuu’s face. His clothes clung to his body weighing him down.
Yagyuu rolled his eyes, sending another wave of water his way. "I’ll beat you back to the house." He started heading for the shore. "Loser has to cook dinner."
Sanada struggled from the water, and tore off up the path after Yagyuu who beat him to the back door by seconds. He held up the key smirking a bit, thankful that it had stayed in his pocket when Yagyuu pulled him into the water. Yagyuu scowled at him, and raised the hem of his shirt showing off pale, toned skin. Sanada stared, distracted just long enough for Yagyuu to take the key and unlock the door.
"Cheating jerk." Sanada muttered, glaring playfully at the other man. Yagyuu smirked, shedding his wet clothes as he went back to the bedroom to change. "Make sure to mop that up." He heard Yagyuu laugh softly in response. Sanada shook his head, and set to cooking a relatively simple, light meal for them. Yagyuu bumped him out of the way, and Sanada went to change into dry clothes as dinner was plated up. When they were finished eating, Yagyuu did the dishes, Sanada riffled through the selection of movies they had brought with them.
"I heard there's a meteor shower." Yagyuu said, wiping his hands on a kitchen towel. "Do we want to go and see if we could watch it?" There was a pause, a small smile. "We could watch it out on the dock. I promise not to throw you again."
Sanada rolled his eyes. "My guard was down. It won't happen again." He nodded. "There's a couple of blankets we could take out there. I'll get them. There's a flashlight under the sink. Grab that and some snacks." He went to the back linen closet, pulling out a couple of blankets, and stopped by their room to pick up two sweatshirts. When he got back into the kitchen, Yagyuu had packed a box full of snacks, and a couple of beers for both of them. Sanada handed over one of the sweatshirts, and they headed back down to the dock. Now dark, everything was quiet and still. It as still warm, but out on the water it would be cooler. The dock rocked gently as they set up the blankets, stretched out on them, staring up at the night sky. Yagyuu's hand brushed against his, Sanada entwining his fingers with the other man's.
"I like you too." The words were almost as easy to say out loud as they were to say in Sanada's mind. He knew Yagyuu had told him that he didn't have to respond, but something lifted off his chest with the admission. Yagyuu squeezed his hand, and Sanada grinned to himself, falling quiet once more.
