The restaurant was closed, staff locking up behind them. Ginji’s laughter was contagious and warm. It had been a while since they had happiness like this- their bellies filled to the bursting point, the high from a successfully completed case. Around them city lights shone brightly, illuminating the night. They had the streets to themselves playful banter and scuffling bouncing off buildings.
Brick crumbled under his fingertips, Ban pressed into to Ginji, the blond’s back against the wall. Lips parted under his, the kiss shy, growing bolder, Ginji’s arms around Ban’s waist held him closer. From above, snow fell lazily.

Winter had given up, the bitter cold fading to gentle warmth. Cherry trees burst into bloom, birds sang with the first rays of sunlight. Ginji would find the whole change of seasons romantic- if his mind wasn’t otherwise occupied. The bed shifted, Ban’s hands warm on Ginji’s body, urging hips upward, downright slutty phrases offered as encouragement.
The rickety bed’s protest was drowned out by the sound of skin against skin, Ban’s voice rising with each thrust, Ginji crying out as he came. The barest whisper as blankets were drawn upward to cover hyper-sensitive skin.
"Ban-chan?"
"I know already know."

The heat rose off the sidewalk, in the back round cicadas buzzed- the high pitched noise filling the evening. It had started as a simple argument over an approach concerning a retrieval. It had escalated quickly, the heat driving Ban’s temper to break quicker than normal. The park was emptying out, couples walking away hand in hand as the sun sank beneath the horizon.
It was long after dark before they got off the bench, a light breeze tugged playfully on their clothing as they walked back to the car, inches between them but miles apart- both unwilling to speak.

"It’s fine." Ban turned back to the paper, hands unsteady as he lit a cigarette. Ginji’s footsteps were heavy and loud as the blond approached him, arms wrapping around Ban from behind.
"I know, Ginji."
"I wasn’t going to apologize, Ban-chan,” the barest of touch, a nuzzle between Ban’s shoulder blades. “I was going to say that I-"
"Me too." Ban’s voice was quiet, Ginji struggled to make out the words. "I always have."
