Like nighttime we hide behind the day
Peering out bedridden and back over our shoulders
At the darkness that’s hidden
In places that shine through my broken wine glass pieces
-Still amazed you forgave me the holes they made in your wall-
But every time I catch you
Have already caught me making Picasso eyes at you
3 inches away from across the room
I didn’t know I was asleep dreaming
Fragments of awake caught in my hair tossed
Over my shoulder turning noose-like while I struggled
Against the whimpers that opened garage doors
And let my eyes roll out
Until I caught against you
Held in place by the rushing against us
And you’ve been to the places I’m afraid to go again
-Still amazed you forgave me the holes they make in my walls-
But your fingers are not cut
And you’ve risked your lips to find that given
Chance’s second try, I’ll leave you giddy
Pouring what’s left into safety
So I can splash your laughter everywhere
And catch each smile on my tongue as it drips down toward me.
