Lovely Bones Review

Lovely Bones

It's a good movie, but they cut a lot of the book out in order to fit it in the running time. The result was like a jigsaw puzzle with several pieces missing, visually impressive, emotive even, but sadly giving the impression that it isn't all there.

The way they showed Heaven/Purgatory was very interesting, though I'd imagine that the more religiously inclined people here might have something to complain about in that regard.

I did have a couple of issues despite the missing out sections, the compression is also an issue (it's meant to take place over a ten or so year period, the movie makes it seem like two on the outside), and one scene in particular kind of bugged me the towards the end of the movie where it goes from suspenceful and scary to schmaltzy so fast you could get whiplash.

Also, the bisexual Emily the Strange protoGoth chick need to be in it more.

All in all, I'd say that it's probably worth a watch, but it's a very sad movie, if you're upset by that kinda thing. Mostly I'd just reccommend the book, just so the story has a bit more room to breathe in it.
