Young Justice Episode 4 - Schooled
- The action begins in Metropolis. Where a schoolbus is going across a bridge. Since it’s Metropolis I presume that the Joker hasn’t just finished robbing a Mob bank.
- I wonder if he’ll appear in this show?
- The bridge mysteriously crumbles, and the bus with its kids inside is shoved slowly off of it. This looks like a job for Superman, or one of his many affiliates.
- Bruce Wayne?! Eh, close enough. Heh, nice touch with the secret button for the “Batman Uniform” section of his desk is hidden in a bust of Shakespeare. Reference to the 60s show, that.
- Turns out Batman isn’t needed, as Superman has actually shown up.
- As has Superboy... who saves the bus despite causing more trouble.
- Superman doesn’t feel comfortable around Superboy. HA!
- Doesn’t want to hang around with him.
- Batman saw Clark give him the brush off though, and presumably if going to tell him to be less of a jackass.
- Black Canary! Yay!
- Megan hugs for all!
- Ooo, I like this version of Dinah. :) She’s neat.
- Kid Flash got smacked around Dinah! HA!
- Superboy versus Dinah!
- And he gets his ass kicked too. Woot!
- Hey, Amazo is attacking the Justice League.
- Wow, him swinging Superman around by his cape to smack the other Leaguers is unintentionally hilarious.
- Huh, so they know that T.O. Morrow made Mr Twister? Interesting.
- And Professor Ivo is allegedly dead in this setting. Hm.
- Hey, a map showing where Metropolis and Gotham are in relation to Boston and Springfield. Neat. :)
- Supportive Black Canary is supportive.
- Nice trucks.
- I have to say, I do like how the JL is acting more like a policing and rescue organisation than the other versions of the team, which is more like the fire brigade. And responding to threats after they occur and not getting involved in the clean-up.
- The comic’s version just seems to sit in their satellite most of the time as villains come to them, which is kind of stupid.
- Anyway, the episode. Batman has his talk with Superman. Superboy annoyed that a non-meta like Black Canary was teaching him combat skills when he could squash her head if he wanted to. Robin’s explanation that “taking down stronger guys is part of the job” was actually pretty good.
- AH! Gremlins! Robot ones!
- Oh, they’re robomonkeys.
- And they just burnt Superboy’s eyes. Eek.
- Megan grows some extra arms to punch monkeys. Understandably this freaks out the guy driving the truck more than the killer robot monkeys did.
- And Kid Flash freaking out freaks out Megan. HA!
- Hm, just realised that Superboy only being able to jump kind of gives him the same skill-set as his Smallville version. Only without the heatvision.
- Meanwhile, back in Metropolis. Hey, Bruce and Clark are in Bibbo’s Diner. Neat. :)
- Clark orders apple pie, Bruce orders devil’s food cake. How like them. Hee.
- Clark looking all rumpled, good disguise.
- Bruce tries to get Clark to take some responsibility for Superboy, but Bruce calling Clark his father gets an angry outburst and leads to Clark storming out.
- Superboy catches up with Ivo and the robomonkeys... Ivo looks like William H Macy dressed like Jimmy Olsen.
- I like his Silver Age theme-naming. This show has good mad scientists. :)
- And Amazo’s been assembled. Eep.
- Superboy doesn’t like being called Superman’s son either it seems.
- Surprisingly brutal beatdown of SB there.
- Robin goes to Gotham City Academy, apparently. Is that where Tim went?
- Kid Flash and Robin show up to save Superboy, only for them to have the crap beaten out of them as well.
- Amazo is really good in this show. Actually kind of scary.
- Wait, a green arrow? Is Huntress nearby?
- Yay, Superboy defeated him by being smart. ^^
- Hm, the arrow isn’t Green Arrow’s. That’s a puzzler.
- And the episode ends with Superboy once again learning to be less of an ass.
Overview, very good and overall strong episode. A lot of fun and some implicitly explanation for the Silver Age design of Amazo. Black Canary’s introduction was solid, and came off a lot better than Megan has so far in the show. The was a reference to Artemis with the mystery arrow, though I think that she doesn’t officially start until next week. It’s possible that they didn’t introduce her at the same time as Megan because they wanted to introduce her dad, Sportsmaster, and his connection to the season’s Big Bad, the Light, to sow some seeds of her going all Terra on them. Definitely looking forward to how the show will progress.
