Fandom: Original
Summary: Marland isn't feeling too great…
Rating: T
Notes: Rated for swearing.
Other(s) is now Xeno(s).
*points to summary* Yeah. I'm not feeling superb at the moment, so, obviously, the solution to this is to take it out on Marland write down what I'm experiencing so then I'll have a note of it later if I have a sick character and then I can make it seem more realistic! (I don't get it; I'm not ill ill - I have the symptoms of… something, but apart from a mild headache, I don't feel ill in my head.)
When is this set? Mid-Searching, maybe? I don't think this is a missing scene, really, so it's not part of the canon but it can be if you want it. X3;; *thinks about it* Aha! After the snow! Oh jeez, don't kill me, Marland...
Going the NaNo route of 'aaaah, get the words down first, who cares if you've used the word ten times already in the previous paragraph' because I'm freezing myself again.
Again, I get more words in a shorter period when it's not the main storyline. *snerk*
Probably ooc but it's late, the symptoms don't feel nice, and I'm doing this to feel productive rather than just lying in bed, wide awake.

Marland's ears were flat when he woke up, and he tried to bury his head into the mattress when he realised he was conscious. What the hell? He felt far too warm; his skin tingled and thrummed under his scales, while his wing membranes were sensitive to every single movement he made, like it was being touched with sandpaper instead. In his head there was a small pressure, but only enough for him to know that it was there, not enough to distract him fully. Why was he feeling like this?

They'd fought that Xeno last night though. Shit. He thought it'd only been a shapeshifter but - but… it hadn't touched him. One ear flicked to the side as he slowly eased out of his curled up position. Which didn't mean much, because there were different ways of transferring poison, and Xenos didn't follow a set pattern of 'normal'.

Growling softly, Marland got off his bed. The room swayed a little when he stood up, and he waited for it to settle before attempting to move. Walking was… okay, though trying to get the coordination right for the door was a little trickier.

Shodin was sitting on the couch, watching the TV, and noticed him as soon as he stepped out his room. His smile that had grew upon seeing him fell and his eyebrows furrowed in concern.

"What's wrong?"

Wait. If he was being affected by the poison, then shouldn't Shodin be as well? "Been poisoned."

Shodin's eyes widened and he quickly got off the couch, coming towards him. "You shouldn't be up then."

Marland snorted and half-heartedly waved him away. "'m not staying in bed all night."

"You'd recover faster if you rested."

He didn't give a proper response, more like a low grumble as he headed for the toilet. Maybe a cold shower would help…

* * *
It didn't. It really didn't. All it did was emphasise the difference in temperatures between his body and the water. Ugh. Shaking the excess water off him, Marland would have stomped out, just to vent his frustration, but the headache was getting worse, where he could feel it behind his eyeballs with every beat of his heart.

And now he was hungry. Shoulders hunched over, he made his way over to the kitchen and stuck a meal into the microwave. Shodin followed him there, and he glanced at him once the meal was cooking. The hum of the machine seemed to grate on his nerves more than usual, like it was trying to squeeze his brain from his ears.

Frowning, Shodin glanced at his forehead, his lips pursed a little, before looking him in the eyes. "Could you stretch a wing out please?"

Marland blinked and then stared at him for a few seconds before doing it. His wing unfurled bit by bit, hesitating and shivering at every tug of muscle. The sensitivity hadn't changed at all.

"I'm going to put my hand on the membrane, okay?" Shodin murmured. He waited until he nodded, and then placed the back of his palm on the closest bit he could reach.

Marland had already snarled and backed away until his other wing hit a counter before he realised. He ducked his head and took a step forward again.

"You're…" Shodin paused, studying his wings. "Are you normally that warm?"

One ear tried to flick up, but failed. "Dunno." He never checked his temperature. Never needed to.

"Are you feeling like it now?"

He nodded, not understanding why Shodin was asking; he was poisoned so that explained why he was feeling the way he was. The microwave dinged behind him and he turned to get his food.

"Hm." Shodin had his arms lightly crossed when he turned back around. "I think you're ill."

"What?" Ill? He'd never been ill, only… poisoned. He looked away, thinking about it. There probably wasn't that much difference between the two - he'd just never had someone to tell him what they were.

"Go back to bed," Shodin ordered softly. "You need rest, food and water."

He growled at him and indicated his plate.

"I know, I know," Shodin said, a small smile on his face, "but you will recover faster if you don't move around too much as well."

He stared at him, eyes narrow, but he could feel his weakness under the surface, and all he really wanted to do was not feel it.

"If you don't, you might get even sicker later."

Ugh. "Okay, fine," he grunted. He sighed and started to head back to his bedroom.

Shodin smiled at him as he walked next to him, tilting his head to the side. "I'll get your painkillers and I'll bring my quilt."

Wait, what? "Why're you bringing your blanket?" He should be getting colder, not warmer!

"It'll help; trust me."

Grumbling, Marland gave up. "Okay." Shodin would do it anyway, no matter how much he argued, and he really didn't want to do anything strenuous just then.

As Marland curled back on his bed and began eating, he realised that he was probably going to have Shodin constantly hovering over him until he got better. He groaned and tried to see if he could eat his food and somehow knock himself unconscious before Shodin came back and drove him crazy.
