Well another weekday night, nothing much doing - staying in and working. Thats what I do, I stay in weeknights and work. An Aussie friend of friend had quite a good time last night. So good in fact that this morning he woke up on the street with a 1,400 bar tab that the bar is politely asking him to work off. I haven't had a chance to talk to him about it, but it sounds eeriely like the cautionary tale they gave us at orientation:
"The other warning came about the famed core nightlife district of Tokyo, Roppongi. The story detailed a student being enticed by two attractive European women to enter a certain hole in the wall bar. Suffice to say that his next clear memory was awaking quite sick and quite cross on a train station platform. Don’t worry, he had all of his organs. His passport, wallet, and credit cards however were quite absent. Another story was substantially the same, but they gave the courtesy of leaving his ID and credit cards with him. On his credit card he noticed a 4,000$ bar tab, so very reasonably he canceled the charge. However this was followed a few days latter by a polite knock on the door by a few gentlemen in a black Mercedes, who must have taken the local address off his Gaijin ID. They strongly felt that the charge was legitimate, and ‘persuaded’ him to allow it. Everyone was okay in the end, albeit broke."
Yup - thats right, I have a friend indebted to the Yakuza. What kind of bar this is and what the job entails I hestitate to ask. Never a dull moment in Roppongi.
On an infinitely lighter note - check the bears you get with your Pepsi:
Predator and Prison Break editions not pictured.
Johnny asked for more cars - so bear with me, I don't want to disappoint. Here is the tip of the iceberg - Let me start by giving you a quick sampling from TODAY:
Evo X
These are from the parking lot right next to my place, and are a pretty representative sample of whats driven here:
Sorry - no exotics....today. On other days though:
Not to mention these that I already posted
Or something SUPER EXTRA Limo
Other notable sitings (along with countless other Rolls, Ferraris, and Bentleys and the odd NSX) I've seen two of the NEW GT-Rs, an Olds 442, an F40, and a .......American State Police Caprice Classic driven by teenagers. I have another half dozen interesting bikes - but I'll hold off. Johnny, D, Dave, enjoy. Normal people, sorry.
