1. AtlusUSA is fulfilling a dream I've had since September: we have a US release date for Catherine. It's a "adult horror game" by the Persona team. If you don't know anything about it, you should check out a trailer:
www.youtube.com/watch. Coming to the US July 26th!
2. Dragon Age 2 looks promising. I hope Hawke is nearly as successful as the beloved Commander Sheppard (both characters being Bioware.) The demo looks solid. Combat is flashier since they actually animated all the finesse characters normally only have in the trailers. Rouges really will do flips and dodges instead of just stabbing. . .and occasionally having "miss" read with the damage counters. Warriors have several shockwave powers, the goal being to disperse some of the clusterfuck. Mages. . .well, I haven't tried a mage yet. But they did incorporate those sweet attacks we see Mage Hawke perform in the debut trailer.
What most surprised me was that Hawke has a family. It is so easy to just slaughter the family and leave the orphan to find her way. It saves a lot of trying to make the family sympathetic or alienating. Most of the origin stories in. . .well, Dragon Age: Origins involved brutality against kin, and your trying to protect/save/escape as necessary. For example:
Human noble: your family is murder by former friend Arl Howe.
Human mage: you're left at a young age to chill in the magus tower.
Alienage elf: humans come and rape your spouse, you go and kill said humans.
Dalish elf: you end up pretty much destroying your home settlement.
Dwarf noble: alright, so I haven't played this one.
Dwarf peasant: end up castless, your sister left to be a prostitute.
Since DA2 spans ten years, it'll be interesting to see how simple or complex they make Hawke's family relations.
3. I beat FFVII, something I've been trying to do for six years.
4. I dug up some awesome AMVs I had bookmarked on my old computer and had hence thought lost in the void of the Internet.
Ouran High School Host Club (Savin' Me) Paranoia Agent (They're out to get you) Paranoia Agent (Mad World) Soul Eater (This is Halloween) Bleach (Angels) 5. The orchestra which performs Final Fantasy music (Distant Worlds) is coming to New York. I am totally going. Tickets start at $65.
6. The most accurate description of Commander Sheppard ever: "In the Mass Effect games, you play as an (absurdly) competent spaceship commander, who is generally regarded by everyone as being the most effective and badass person in the universe, bar-none." The rest is over
here.
