BBQ and a Cold and a Win

At the last minute last week, Alfredo and I put together a BBQ, because his high school friend, Val, was in town from London. Despite no one being able to RSVP (because of the short notice of the BBQ) until Saturday, we still managed to clean the house and pull off one awesome BBQ. It included home-made mac and cheese, steak skewers, sweet Italian sausage, Dad's World Famous Hamburgers (a family receip), a large selection of BYOB, mini cup cakes, humus with carrots and pita, zuchinni, eggplant, asaragus and Boston cream pie. - and that was just the food menu. Some really awesome people were able to stop by, including Ali, Justin, Shari, Eli, Andres, Rheanna, Val, Elziana, Mike, and Mitzu (am I missing anyone?). Everyone except Mike (who was excused due to some truely gnarley sun poisoning) stayed til the end and most participated in a rousing game of Apples to Apples. Mitzu, who wasn't sure if he should play because, as he said "English isn't my first language", was a surprisingly awesome player. We finally ended the evening around 2am, which was much later than any of thought it was.

Sunday, obviously, I woke up sick. I have a theory on this.... last week, my throat was kinda hurting, which started a few days after one of my co-workers got stupid sick. my theory is that I expended all my remaining white blood cells by cleaning, cooking and hosting Saturday, so when Sunday rolled around, the office-spawned illness had taken hold. I laid on the couch all Sunday, I left work and slept on Monday, and today I'm still sick, but back to my old was of ignoring it.

Today, the "igorning my cough and generally bad feeling" mostly involved going to Kickball. Shari generously invited me to join her company's kickball team, so I"m officially a part of Team Duck/Hunt. Hot. I hurt myself at a game a few months ago, and since then, my quadracept really hasn't been responding well to anything. It mostly feels okay, but at the slightest thought of excersice (a brisk walk, a bike ride, and DEFINATELY rounding the bases at kickball), it feels like the front of my thigh is being torn open with fire. Hot. Happened again today, but not as bad, and Sue is smart enough to keep me at catcher, so I'm not hobbling all over the field trying to catch balls like a dumbass. AAAAAAAAAAAAAanyway, we WON today, and I even managed to be one of those runs. Beyond that, it was an acutal friendly game with a team on par with us, and made it really fun to play (rather than having our asses handed to us from the get go).

It's always exciting. I hope I wake up better tomorrow.

Nite nite (go Celtics).

kickball, bbq, sports, sick
