Wow... Captivity absolutely BOMBED on Rotten Tomatoes. I haven't really paid much attention to it but of the more sensible reviews the faults are bad acting, no plot and bad dialogue. There's always a lot of those reviewers who seem to be of the conservative prick nature where they bash it because of gore or what not. They use the term Torture Porn. I fucking loathe that term. What the hell is Torture Porn? Yeah there are victims who get Tortured. But last time I checked I didn't see an alternating shot of a girl getting slashed to death and then a close up penetration view. Grow the hell up! Signs point to me not really liking the film but all the attention has made me curious to at least give it a rental when it comes out. People can bitch and moan all they want but this is where filmmaking is currently. There needs to be a new trend in horror. Can you imagine watching a 1950's wolf man flick or 70's Dracula film and being scared? No.. I didn't think so. Those films have nostalgic value, but the popcorn isn't going to be flying out of your hands like it may have from the beatniks of that era.
On a more positive note pyschological and suspense still work in movies. I hope to see more come out of that horror sub-genre in the near future too.
