A place from months, years ago. The rain fell softly down, and she-Juliet? No, Grell-was walking away, her scythe clutched in her hand.

The voice faded in, unmistakable. "I said...hunt down Jack the Ripper. It's not over yet, quit wasting time. Kill it now."

"As you wish," came Sebastian's reply.

Why...why couldn't they just let her go? Why wouldn't she be allowed to go? The anger flared up again, and she let it direct her words. "I neglected you as your will to fight seemed to have faded...but if you desire, I'll send you both straight to heaven!" With her proclamation, she spun on her heel to slash at the demon, who easily stepped back out of range.

"Heaven? I have no such fate," he replied, smirking as he kicked a nearby crate at her. She scoffed and obliterated it with an easy swing of the scythe. "I'm in a bad mood now..." she confessed. "Going easy on you now is-" She cut off her words, confused by the demon's disappearance, but with half a second was back on guard, his weight on her scythe cluing her in with enough time to have her narrowly dodge the kick he threw at her.

"Did you just aim at my face?" she hissed. The face was a prize for a lady such as herself! "You inhuman..."

"That's right...I'm one hell of a butler."

"You think a demon can win against a god?"

"I have no idea, as I've never fought one. Though if my master tells me to win, I shall."

"What's with you and the brat? You're so dedicated...I'm jealous." She raised an eyebrow."Nevertheless...even demons can be destroyed when my scythe cuts them. Aren't you afraid?" I can destroy you, and you aren't fazed? she mentally asked.

"Yes. But this body down to the last hair is my master's. As long as the contract exists, I shall obey his order. That is a butler's aesthetic. I won't die unless he tells me to."

"Hmm~ I love a man who can examine the aesthetics, Sebastian..." Grell suddenly swung at him again. "I feel like trampling on your face, and forcing you to lick my heels clean!" He leaped to avoid it, and she gazed up at him. "A demon and a reaper...perhaps we can understand each other? If a reaper's job is to collect souls..."-she moved back to avoid him-"then a demon's is to steal them and devour them like a beast! So unrequited...as if..." Ah ha. The idea came to her as she leapt up to the roof. "It was the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet!"

Perfect. He was thrown off, as she had intended, and it fuelled her to keep going. "If we starred in that tale, Shakespeare would weep, no? Oh Sebastian...why don't you just throw off that name your master gave you..." He was coming after her. Yes. "And look only at me!" She leapt up to dodge him. "Wherefore art thou Sebastian?"

He smirked and continued after her. "With a single word, since the moment the master called me such, with that word the contract was refined. Since that day I became Sebastian. I swore by the moon."

"Swearing by the moon-what an inconstant man! Your eyes show no love for anything but violation. A demon that corrupts pure souls with greedy hands and lips..." She shuddered from how she was working herself up, both from the poetry and tension before the fight. "You make me shiver...if I could have your child, I would!"

"Please stop, it's disgusting." Oh, but she could go on...she loved seeing him thrown off guard.

"So cold...beautiful tyrant, fiend angelical! Dove feathered raven, wolfish ravening lamb...ah, Sebastian!" He forced the swing her scythe took into the roof, stepping on her hands to keep it there. "If only the morning wouldn't come, we could fight like this forever!" Grell leaned in close. "But this adventure is over."

She smacked her forehead into his with as much force as she could, stunning him enough that she could bring up her scythe unhindered. "Let us part with a passionate kiss...so then, a thousand, no ten thousand times farewell." And with that opening, Grell could finally allow her scythe to tear into him, eagerly anticipating seeing the memories.

However, instead of drama, what came out was basic domestic memories of his life as a butler. It served to further enrage her. "Wait, wait wait...who the hell are these people?"

"Around this time last year my life was filled with such things."

"I have no interest in these common sights! Show me something more interesting!"

"I'm sorry to say..." Suddenly he was behind her, and she pivoted to keep him in her sights. "It's going to cost you a lot to see anything else."

"Shit."

Grell nearly had to bend backwards to avoid the attack at her face again, and bounded in that direction to gain some small amount of time. He didn't follow, though, instead looking almost regretful. "My clothes have been torn again...I thought I could repair it from just around the shoulder, but I won't be able to save it now."

"At a time like this, you're concerned with how you look? Maybe the wounds I gave were too shallow. However...I do love a man who cares for his appearance, Sebastian." Grell took up a ready stance, waiting for his move.

Sebastian only took off his tailcoat-and oh, how wonderful he looked bloodstained and standing tall, so elegant... "I didn't want to have to use this method, but I suppose it can't be helped."

She laughed. "So you'll finally fight me seriously?" Even under the stress of a fight, she couldn't help but notice their atmosphere seemed so perfect for them. The wind, the moonlight... "Let's bring this to a close with the next attack, then. May we say goodbye to this realm and join in the next."

With that, they both flew at each other, and she was ready to strike to kill.

beautiful but dysfunctional, memory, like a puzzle piece, oh snap
