Nostalgia for a Loved One - Chapter 1
Note: I do not own Naruto/Naruto Shippuden or any of it's characters. Please do not read this if you are under the age of 18, some chapters contain material not suitable for your age.
Description: This is the first chapter of "Nostalgia for a Loved One", my KibaNaru fanfic. This chapter is about Naruto and Kiba going on their first mission after being paired up in a secondary Two-man cell.
Italicized words stand for thoughts of the characters.
Chapter 1
Naruto looked over at Kiba, who was now smiling. Hmm, maybe if I ask now I can get a different parter... Naruto didn't have anything against Kiba, but he was hoping to be paired with one of his teammates, Sai or Sakura. Just as he was about to ask Tsunade for a switch, Kiba put his hand on Naruto's shoulder.
"Hi, Naruto!" said Kiba happily. "I'm glad we're partners, I've been waiting to see how much you've improved for a while now."
Naruto looked over to Kiba, Too late, Naruto thought, "Sure!" Naruto replied, then gave one of his bright smiles. Oh well, I'll have fun doing missions with him to say the least.
"Attention!" commanded the Lady Hokage, Tsunade. "I've been saving up various types of missions of several ranks. By tommorrow I will have looked through the missions and matched each team up with a mission suiting their members." Tsunade beckoned for Shizune, then told her to go get some papers and mission requests from the other room, "Hai!" (Hai means "yes" in japanese.) replied Shizune, running off into the halls to the room across.
"Dismissed." The ninja left the room one at a time, all leaving, talking to their new secondary partners.

Kiba yawned then rubbed his eye, "Morning, Akamaru." the Ninken replied with a yawn of it's own, then a bark. Kiba got out of bed. He was wearing only his boxers, which had brown paw prints on them. He walked over to his window and opened the curtains, then covered his eyes at the bright shine coming from the cloudless sky.
After getting dressed and feeding Akamaru, Kiba decided he'd go see what Naruto was up to, and when Tsunada-sama was going to announce each team with their first 2-man cell missions.
"Mom, you here?" no reply. Hana walked in from the backyard with a basket of clothes, "She's out training with a few genin she had to train, temporarily of course. What do you need Kiba?" Hana asked as she folded a shirt. "Oh. I'm going over to see Naruto, then we're going to head to the Hokage's office to hear our mission." replied Kiba. "Alright, good luck." Hana walked back out into the backyard, with the basket.
Kiba headed through part of the Konoha Market District, which was quiet today, and then to the area of Naruto's home. Kiba knocked on Naruto's door as he reached the top of the small flight of steps. No answer. He knocked again, no answer. Kiba sniffed the door. He's home, I know he is, Kiba thought, then knocked on the door again. "Alright, alright! I'm coming! Sheesh!" shouted a muffled voice from behind the door. Then the door opened, Naruto had apparently been a sleep, he was dressed in his pajama's.
"Hi, Naruto." said Kiba. "Uhh, hi, Kiba." replied Naruto. Kiba was lucky that Naruto didn't normally sleep in his boxers, he would've certainly been 'hard' at this point. "Come on in Kiba, I'll change while you wait in the living room." Naruto let Kiba in and walked on to his bedroom. Kiba looked around, Naruto's room was full of clothes on the floor and the garbage bin had a few ramen cups in it. He took a seat on the couch, which was clean. Kiba sniffed the air, it certainly didn't smell as bad as it looked.
Naruto walked in from his room, shutting the door behind him. He was dressed in his orange and black jumpsuit. "So Kiba, whatcha need?" asked Naruto. "Oh, I came to say hi, and to ask if you wanted to go see Tsunade for our mission." Kiba got up from the couch. "Sure!" replied Naruto. "Do you want to eat first?" asked Kiba, "Nah, I'm not hungry." replied Naruto. Kiba was a little disappointed, he had skipped breakfast so he could go on a "date" with Naruto, now he was going to be hungry for a few hours.
Naruto and Kiba made their way up the rounding hallways of the Hokage Building, looking around at old paintings of picutes of Konohagakure during the First and Second Hokage's times. They came to Tsunade's door and Naruto knocked. "Come in." a voice replied. Kiba and Naruto entered the room, just as Sakura was leaving with the mission for her and Hinata. "Ah, Kiba. Naruto. Here for your mission?" asked the Lady Hokage. "Sure am, Grandma Tsunade!" replied Naruto with a grin. "Alright, you two will be heading a day or two's worth out of Konohagakure, you will be sent to be bodyguards for a wealthy Prince near the borders of the Land of Fire, just for a few days, untill they've taken care of the bandits around there." Kiba stepped foward, "Yes, Lady Hokage." he made a quick bow and turned to Naruto. "You got it!" said Naruto, "Ok, Kiba. Let's go get ready!"

Naruto and Kiba agreed to meet at the entrance to Konoha in an hour, they would be gathering equipment and food for their journey to the border. Kiba was packing more than Naruto would be, because he a companion tagging along, of course it was Akamaru. Kiba was packing a few Kunai, Dog food, Soldier pills, some Shuriken, and some other things, food being among them. Naruto was packing pretty much the same stuff, minus what was needed to take care of a dog.
After about an hour passed by, Naruto and Kiba met up at the agreed location, though Naruto was later than Kiba by about 10 minutes. The two ninja left Konoha just before lunch, Kiba snuck in a cup of ramen to eat before he left, Naruto had about 3 cups before he left.
After a day of walking, the two ninja had decided they would be quicker if they ran, so they decided to head into the forests and go by tree. Hopping from branch to branch, on Akamaru that is, Kiba lead the way, checking their surroundings every now and then. With little rest, the two were sure to get tired sooner or later, and sure enough, they did. "N-Naruto...Let's rest.." said Kiba, panting. Naruto agreed, and the two jumped down to the ground and stopped.
They were there for at least an hour, eating and chatting, when Naruto decided they move foward. "Alright, Kiba. Rests over!" They packed their belongings and extra food. Naruto started to jump up into the tree's, then Kiba stopped him. "u-uh...Naruto..before we go..I've been meaning to tell you something." Naruto jumped back down, "Sure thing, what is it?" Naruto looked slightly confused, afterall, what could Kiba have to stop for, when he could just talk as they went? "Well, um, you see-" Kiba stuttered, "Naruto...I think, well, um, that I-" he stopped again, Naruto hadn't seen Kiba make this many mistakes when he was talking, in fact, he wasn't aware Kiba could be as shy as he was now. "Naruto, I...I like you." Naruto looked at him, "Well of course you do, we've been friends well since the Chuunin exams. Kiba looked at him, red faced. "No, I mean-" then Naruto looked at him, "Oh! Well, I don't know...I like Sakura, and..." Naruto quietly thought about the situation. Kiba looked at him, "Do you think you c-could at least...kiss me? To see if we could, be t-together?" Kiba looked at him with true puppy eyes, "Just o-once?" Naruto was about to say no, nada, not got happen, but he couldn't say no to that face, especially since it would ruin any friendship they had, most likely. Just once, that was it. "O-ok," said Naruto, ", but just this one time, and--" Naruto was interupted by Kiba's kiss. "Ok" was all Kiba had to hear. Naruto's face went from suprised to calm. Kiba's eyes were closed, Naruto looked at his face, and felt emotion. W-wow, this, he's, I didn't think I could...feel like this. Over another guy at least! Naruto closed his eyes, just as he realized how much he was enjoying it, Kiba pulled away, knowing he shouldn't make his teammate go through something he didn't want to. "W-well? What did you feel?" asked Kiba. Naruto was blushing. "It felt....great." replied Naruto, calmly. "So d-do you think we could..be together?" asjed Kiba again. Naruto blushed deeper. "Yeah," he smiled, "I think we could give it a try." he finished. Kiba looked suprised, then happy. He kissed Naruto on the cheek, "Thank you." Kiba said. He jumped up onto a branch, "Now, let's get back to our mission, Naruto!" shouted Kiba, atop Akamaru. Naruto smiled and followed Kiba.
