Work's going well, things are beggining to make sense and I'm being left to man the fort by myself tomorrow. It's very busy though so it's perhaps a good thing I don't have the temptation of LJ!

I have recently read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks bt Rebecca Skloot. Henrietta Lacks was the woman who gave us HeLa and by doing so changed the course of medical science. Henrietta died without ever knowing the contribution she'd made to science. It's a fascinating book not only about medical ethics but about institutionalized racism and the poverty that accompanies it. The Lacks family have never been compensated despite the billions made from Henrietta's cells and they have received little benefit as they can't afford health insurance. It was a book that made me cry, made me angry and made me very grateful I live in a country with a National Health Service.

On a somewhat related note I also watched Creation the recent film about Charles Darwin. It's one of those soild if unremarkable British biographical films that could easily go out on the BBC on a Sunday evening.

I've found season 3 quite a slow starter and it's only just kicked into gear with Stringer's confession about D'angelo's murder and Prez shooting another cop. I also loved Omar, dressed in purple going to Church outfit, ranting about being shot at while with his granny.

The politics storyline is boring me though, mainly as all I can think about is how hard Aiden Gillan's accent sucks when he's on screen.

I am loving the friendship between Greggs and McNulty though, it's one of the few examples of a male/female frienship without any sexaul undercurrents to it on TV that I can think of.
