Scottish airspace is now open! Although no where else is so we still can't go anywhere. I am increasingly thinking I wont be going to Wales next week, and this fills me with woe. Mainly as it means I'll then need to go to work and bang my head against a desk.

When not glued to the TV watching the news wailing, "but how will I get to Wales" I have been reading Beyond Black by Hilary Mantell. It's billed as a ghost story, but I wouldn't really call it that, although there are ghosts in it. For the most part it's funny and engrossing but I found it fizzled out towards the end. I still enjoyed it but the end was unsatisfying.

I watched Fantabulosa: The Kenneth Williams Story and most of the time Michael Sheen didn't remind me of Tony Blair. I really don't think it's Sheen as an actor, I think it's traits of an extrovert character that various characters he's played have shared. Which is all slightly disturbing. Poor Kenneth Williams though, I think the lesson here is if you pick up an Irish soldier in the park you should certainly sleep with him.

I also watched the first four episodes of the The West Wing and have formed the controversial opinion that I don't particularly like it. I'm used to political fiction in the vein of Yes Minister, The Thick of It and House of Cards and the wide eyed reverence for the system in The West Wing just doesn't work for me. I realise that the point is to show an ideal liberal presidency but it's all a bit twee IMO. Saying that I didn't hate it. I thought, for example, the dialogue held up pretty well ten years later (unlike something like Buffy where the dated dialogue is cringe worthy). It's a show I'd watch if there was nothing on but I'm not particularly anxious to see the next episode.
