During the summer, I couldn't work out whether it was the smoke detector or the burglar alarm that was beeping for a battery change. It was the burglar alarm, but we didn't work that one out until it started squealing and stuff.

So you're not the only person to get the wrong detector! I imagine it's quite an easy thing to do.

I think it probably is a pretty common mistake. Knowing that doesn't help when you're up at two in the morning, though. :(

Whoops! :D If it's any consolation, this is just the kind of thing I would do if I had more than one alarm in the apartment!

Hey, I'm just glad I figured it out before I got the landlord to call the electrician! But as I was heading towards the couch to sleep that night, right before I figured it out, I though "Oh, this is definitely how I'm going to write up Katri's prompt!" :)

I do know some people who have different types of alarms, and their carbon monoxide alarms make a different beeping noise than their smoke detectors, so if I had one of those, I probably would have figured it out faster. But all's well that ends well, yes? :)
