The prompt for this story was “When bursting into song is appropriate,” submitted by smoothiesims. This story fits into the current chapter of Already in Progress.
I LOVE swishy and/or twirly skirts and dresses! And, um, I may have been known to sing and dance around the house while cleaning or putting away the dishes. My dad sings when he's in a good mood, and I think I caught it. (My dad doesn't dance around, though.) There's more than a little of me in Dmitri...
I tend to sing when I'm hoovering, I feel more confident then. I do dance a lot though, and am constantly being told not to dance in the kitchen near the appliances. :)
I have far too many skirts and dresses, I love going down the stairs in them so they float, or twirling of course. :)
I used to dance jitterbug swing (haven't been in a while, alas) and although I was a beginner, I used to get asked to dance a fair amount. I think this had to do with my dress, which was nicely twirly, and would stand straight out from my waist when my partner spun me. (I work bike short underneath, because I knew that happened.) When I would come out of a spin, my partner was usually not looking at my face. For some reason, I got spun a lot... :P
But since I love to dance and I love to spin and nobody ever did anything other than look, I was fine with it. :D
Yeah, those sorts of dresses are pretty and perfect for dancing, but definitely shorts or lots and lots of underskirts needed for when they flare out. :)
And now I want to finish my current dress alteration, but there's not enough light in here at night to sew. :(
When I was young, my parents danced Western style square dancing, where the women /all/ wear skirts deliberately designed to fly up like that. They wear masses of frilly petticoats underneath, and they wear frilly ruffled fitted shorts underneath, called "pettipants." Women would coordinate their petticoats and pettipants with their dresses -- maybe a red-and-white dress with both underneath items white, or a baby blue dress with both undergarments in a "rainbow sherbet" color scheme, or a black dress with white petticoats and red pettipants... They know they're going to be seen, and they make fashion choices.
I can just see him dancing around and putting the dishes away. :D And swishy skirts/dresses are the best.
