Lol, such misery, poor kids! Is a child refusing to go to school a fluke or does it come with being deep in the red? I mean, I've had to command unhappy kids to go to school before, but I never encountered them refusing to go in my Apocalypses. Though, I don't think my Apoca-kids were ever that deep in the red, but thinking back, they usually had decent Fun levels, so maybe that's it..?

(I recently played TS1 again for the first time since getting TS2 and forgot Sims will refuse to go to work if they're too unhappy, which can start a pretty difficult downward spiral when they're broke to begin with. I don't think that's an issue in TS2 either, but I could be wrong.)

I just read all the rules for this challenge, and I think it would make a fun little quirky household to add to MV. I wouldn't set out to make it harder like you did, but I thought it would be a good opportunity to use some of the face paint and costumes I normally don't have much if any use for.

A child refusing to go to school seems to be tied to them being deep in the red. I'm not sure that the aspiration was bad enough to cause tantrums, but aspiration was low and all motives were very low, leaving the portrait sort of orange. I probably could have forced them to go if I were persistent, but I had enough hassle getting the others on the bus that I didn't notice the girls weren't on until it had left. And I'm so new to the "walk to school" option that until typing out this very comment, it didn't occur to me that I could have made them attend that way.

I've never had anyone refuse to go to work, but I could totally see that happening.

I think you should include this in Mesa Vista for sure! It *is* a fun challenge, and it's not so much that I said "Hey, I wanna make this harder" as I though "Hey, this would be good for those kids" and it ended up being harder without trying. And having an opportunity to use the weird FT clothes and makeup is always good. :)

Wow you are having a super hard time there, makes me feel guilty for having it so much easier. My only issue was that of the two teens only Gavin would go to school as Ginger could not 'leave the little ones' even though he was right there and available to stay home.

Do you have a link to your first chapter?

Is this an actual challenge with rules then? I keep missing stuff on LJ as I am not checking it very often.

Yes, this is a real challenge with rules and all. I'm traveling right now and can't link you to either the rules or chapter one but if you click the "newsons" tag on my post, it should bring up everything. I will link when I get home.

Don't feel guilty about having an easier time than me - I think probably everybody does and I brought it on myself. :P

I found it on MTS this morning. Now I see why, $50 bucks. I think with toddlers that is a really hard challenge and since that is kind of a penalty I would have made at least the sleeping rules a little bit easier like allowing for a toddler sleep mat. I had about $40,000 and a nicely set up van for the Newson's when I played them. Interesting challenge.

Wow, those poor kids. I haven't seen so many miserable sims on one lot in ages! I think I'll give this challenge a go. *cackles evilly*

It's probably easier with older sims, although it'd probably still be a tricky one. I'm certainly enjoying the difficulty myself, even if it does get frustrating sometimes.

It's funny, my last bacc chapter/update was with the Newsons too so I had to take a peek at your Fantabulous ones (my Ginger is also tattooed...but she wouldn't even know what you meant if you called her a carnie, she'd just resent it). Yet while, story-wise, I think mine still managed to have a rougher go of it, their motives were all pretty green. To a neutral-ish demigod player like myself that's a very appealing shade of orange your sims have got going...
*cackles "neutrally"*
:-D

I'm not *trying* for that lovely shade of orange - it happens naturally. I also think that if you start with older sims it wouldn't be so bad. But it's a fun challenge to play and I think it's a good fit for this family. (I also think that the orange isn't going anywhere for a while yet.)

Thanks for reading and commenting - I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying the story!

That definitely seems like a challenging challenge! Wow. Those poor kids! And of course since the only item you couldn't sell was the treasure chest, that's the one that came up first (even though it normally takes quite a lot of effort at least in my experience)!

But hey, they're all still alive, and performing, and even gained a business star. So there's hope! Looking forward to seeing how things go. :)

"Challenge" is a very appropriate word for it! I think I've gotten a treasure chest four times since they became possible? But *of course* this was one of those four times.

I'm sure that they'll reach the tipping point soon and it will all start to work itself out. Of course, that's what I thought with my asylum challenge, and it turned out to not be the case... But it will be different this time! Better! :)
